It has been announced by several potential candidates, including the Honorable Barakat Bakare Akande, who is now serving as the Council leader of the Surulere Local Government, that they want to seek the ticket in the general elections that will take place in 2023. This would put him up against fierce opposition. You may recall that the congressman who represents the Surulere I district in the State Assembly in Lagos was called out on social media for referring the Nigerian youths who responded to the gunshots at the Lekki Tollgate as children. This caused a backlash against the legislator. After the demonstration, he continued to advocate for the control of social media.
