Drake Doremus Biography and Career:

Drake Doremus is an American film director, screenwriter, and producer. He was born on March 29, 1983, and is best known for directing the films Like Crazy (2011), which took home the Grand Jury Prize at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, and Douchebag (2010), which competed in the Dramatic category at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. Equals (2015) is his most recent directorial effort.

Doremus attended the AFI Conservatory for his directing training, where he held the record for being the school’s youngest-ever fellow admitted. Cherie Kerr, Doremus’ mother, was one of the original members of the famed group The Groundlings in Los Angeles. Doremus began his career as an improv comedy performer on Kerr’s stage when he was only six. He performed with the Orange County Crazies for his whole childhood. After that, he became a producer and director for that company, working on projects such as his creative works.

In 2008, Doremus was contacted by producer Jonathan Schwartz on the advice of a talent agency. Jonathan Schwartz went on to produce all four of Doremus’s following projects. His film Like Crazy, released in 2011, has been regarded as only tangentially influenced by his life events. Anton Yelchin, Felicity Jones, and Jennifer Lawrence are among the actors who appear in it.

The film’s screenplay was only a fifty-page comprehensive outline; the cast and crew improvised most of the dialogue. The movie was made in only one month with a budget of under two hundred and fifty thousand dollars, and it ended up winning the Grand Jury Prize at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. Doremus directed a social video titled “The Beauty Inside,” which was produced in 2012 for Intel and Toshiba and consisted of six parts. Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Topher Grace are the two featured actors, and Richard Greenberg wrote it.

He was awarded the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding New Approaches – Original Daytime Program or Series for his work on the series. At the Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) in June 2013, his film “Breathe In,” which starred Felicity Jones, Guy Pearce, Amy Ryan, and Mackenzie Davis, was the opening night feature. Equals is a science fiction romantic drama film released in 2015 and directed by Doremus. Nathan Parker wrote the script for the film based on a narrative that Doremus had created, and the film stars Kristen Stewart, Nicholas Hoult, Guy Pearce, and Jacki Weaver.

Newness, a love drama that Doremus directed and produced in 2017, debuted at the Sundance Film Festival, where it also received its global premiere. Doremus and Nicholas Hoult, who worked together in Doremus’s previous film Equals, are reuniting for this project. In addition, Laia Costa has a starring role. He tried again to write a science-fiction romance with the novel Zoe, penned by Richard Greenberg and published by Amazon Studios on July 20, 2018.

Léa Seydoux, Ewan McGregor, Theo James, Rashida Jones, Matthew Gray Gubler, Miranda Otto, and Christina Aguilera are some of the actors that appear in it. Jamie Dornan appears in the commercial for Hugo Boss’s “The Scent Private Accord” perfume, directed by Doremus and helmed by him. Ben York Jones is a regular collaborator with Doremus. He is responsible for writing Newness and co-writing the songs “Like Crazy” and “Breathe In” with Doremus.

Spooner, Douchebag, Like Crazy, and The Beauty Inside were some of the films in which York Jones acted, and he was also the producer of Douchebag and Newness. In addition to that, he was singled out for particular gratitude on Equals. It was revealed that Doremus would collaborate with Amazon to co-executive produce and direct a television series based on the novel White Fur written by Jardine Libaire. It has been announced that Doremus will require a new romance drama named Aurora, which CJ Entertainment will produce.

In addition, it was disclosed that Doremus has agreed to a contract with Paramount Television for two years to create new ideas and direct ongoing productions. Netflix did not want to comment, and producers of the program at Fifth Season could not be contacted for a response. However, the source material for the romantic drama series is the Josie Silver book of the same name. The novel’s protagonist is a woman named Laurie who, according to the book’s publisher, “is pretty sure love at first sight, doesn’t exist anywhere besides in the movies.”

But then, on a snowy day in December, she looks out the fogged-up window of a bus and sees a guy who she knows in an instant is the one for her. When their gazes contact, a moment of pure enchantment occurs…and then her bus pulls away from the stop.” After that, Laurie spends the better part of a year and a half looking for the unknown guy throughout London. When she is ultimately presented to him as the new lover of her closest friend, Sarah, at a Christmas party, she finds out that his name is Jack and that he is from England.

According to Random House, “what happens next for Laurie, Sarah, and Jack is ten years of friendship, heartbreak, missed opportunities, roads not taken, and destinies reconsidered.”During his almost two-decade-long career, Doremus has polished vehicles for A-list performers such as Felicity Jones, Kristen Stewart, Nicholas Hoult, and Guy Pearce. He is best renowned for his surprisingly personal and improvisatory films that examine many types of romantic relationships.,

Many of the films produced by Jennifer Lawrence, Ewan McGregor, Lea Seydoux, Laia Costa, and Anton Yelchin have had their world premieres at Sundance. When the writer-directors romance Like Crazy debuted at the Park City, Utah festival, it won the U.S. Dramatic Grand Jury Prize and a Special Jury Prize recognizing Jones’ performance. Before this, the buzz surrounding the writer-director had been building since the Sundance premiere of his 2010 feature dramedy Douchebag. This buzz reached a new level when Like Crazy starred the then-up-and-coming Jones, Yelchin, and Lawrence.
