Gigguk Biography and Career:

Gigguk, also known as Garnt Maneetapho (born May 31, 1990), is a Thai-British YouTuber and podcaster who is well-known for his hilarious analyses of anime and otaku culture. He is connected to the GeeXPlus agency, which is supported by Kadokawa. On June 13, 2007, Maneetapho posted his first anime review, for the film Bleach; the video, as well as his future YouTube career, were the result of his procrastination from studying for math tests.

He called his channel The Anime Zone and used by the internet moniker “Gigguk,” a combination of his last name, UK, and his family nickname, “Gigg.” 1,000 subscribers joined The Anime Zone in October 2009, followed by 10,000 by June 2012 and 100,000 by May 2013. Around this time, Maneetapho began branching out into new endeavours outside of his YouTube channels.

His first foray into an anime music video (AMV) occurred in 2011. In 2012, this was followed by a producer role in the abridging of well-known anime, beginning with Evangelion into the EvAbridged series. Additionally in 2012, Maneetapho collaborated on the PodTaku podcast alongside Tristan Gallant (Arkada), Holden Bremley, and Jeanne Jean.

The podcast, which was primarily freeform and covered a wide range of topics in anime and otaku culture, was described as a group of anime critics conversing at an invisible table.  In 2013, it merged with the J-Taku podcast, which featured a more specialised discussion of a specific anime or manga.

However, in January 2016, both podcasts came to an end, a decision Maneetapho did not favour but acknowledged as being definitive. Maneetapho began working for Atos as a subcontractor for the BBC in September 2013 following her graduation from the University of Bristol.

Needs a better source As Maneetapho struggled with work-life balance over the following two years, the number of new videos uploaded to YouTube decreased significantly. Maneetapho made the decision to leave his job in the beginning of 2016 in order to try creating video for YouTube full-time, with the intention of giving up if his efforts produced minimal results.

He started a Patreon account later that year.  Following a self-described break, his main channel’s subscriber count topped 500,000 subscribers in December of that year before surpassing a million on December 30, 2017. Maneetapho stopped using the Anime Zone nick for his channel in 2017 and switched to just Gigguk.

Additionally, an attempt was made to return to podcasting as a co-host for Anime no Yume with Holden Bremley and Jeanne Jean; two episodes were produced before it was abruptly cancelled.  Alongside YouTuber LilyPichu, Maneetapho gave the Best Comedy award at the 2nd Crunchyroll Anime Awards in February 2018 at the Ricardo Montalbán Theatre in Los Angeles.

In order to start working as an influencer for GeeXPlus, Maneetapho and YouTuber Sydney Poniewaz (Sydsnap) relocated to Tokyo, Japan’s northwest in November 2019. Through his work, an effort was made to spread awareness of anime and Japanese culture throughout the rest of the world.

In February 2020, Maneetapho collaborated with Connor Colquhoun (CDawgVA) and Joey Bizinger (The Anime Man) to launch and present the audio and video podcast Trash Taste. On it, they talk about anime, manga, otaku culture, and their experiences living in Japan. The first episode debuted on June 5, 2020, and fresh episodes are uploaded every Friday on popular podcasting sites like YouTube.

Maneetapho took part in a competition for YouTubers who watch anime in August 2020 that was sponsored by Chess.com.  Twitch was used to stream the competition, which was termed the Tournament Arc. Maneetapho defeated Connor Colquhoun, the self-described antagonist, to advance to the finals of Trash Taste.

Maneetapho successfully defended his championship in Tournament Arc 2, which was once more hosted by Chess.com.  In December 2021, Maneetapho launched GiggukVODs, a third channel that offers recordings of his Twitch livestreams. Maneetapho was born and raised in the UK; his parents are from Thailand.

He has twice in his life served as a monk and is an active Buddhist.  On April 12, 2019, Maneetapho and Sydney Poniewaz, a fellow YouTuber, got engaged.  In a ceremony held in the UK on June 5, 2022, they were wed. The content on Gigguk’s channel has made him a well-known YouTube personality.
