He has also been nominated for four Primetime Emmy Awards and four Screen Actors Guild Awards (1995).

His first Primetime Emmy Award was given to him for his role in American Horror Story: Asylum (2012). He also won a Canadian Screen Award for his work on Still Mine (2013). Even though he was born in Los Angeles, Cromwell spent his childhood in Manhattan, New York. His mother, an actress named Kay Johnson, died in 1975, and his father, an actor, and director named John Cromwell died in 1979. During the McCarthy era, Cromwell was put on a “blacklist.” His family comes from England, Ireland, Scotland, and Germany.

He went to school at the Hill School, Middlebury College, and Carnegie Mellon University. He went to Carnegie Mellon University to study architecture until he decided to become an actor instead. He became interested in the performing arts, like his parents, and acted in everything from Shakespeare to more experimental plays. Cromwell’s first appearance on TV was in a 1974 episode of The Rockford Files. In that episode, he played Terry, a tennis coach. After a few weeks, he started making regular appearances on All in the Family as Stretch Cunningham.

In 1980, the two-part episode of the long-running TV show Little House on the Prairie called “Laura Ingalls Wilder” featured Cromwell as a special guest star. He played Almanzo Wilder’s old friend Harve Miller. Dean Butler played Almanzo Wilder.

Throughout the whole decade of the 1980s, Cromwell worked steadily in the TV industry. But he also played supporting roles in movies like Tank and Revenge of the Nerds (both 1984). Along with Kevin Peter Hall, who played Predator, he had a recurring role as a crazy person on the comedy show Night Court.

In the 1990s, he starred in a number of movies that got good reviews, such as Babe, and L. A. He also played Dr. Zefram Cochrane in the 1996 movie Star Trek: First Contact and in the first episode of Star Trek: Enterprise, called “Broken Bow” (the Star Trek: Enterprise episode “In a Mirror, Darkly” later reused some of the First Contact footage).

Cromwell played other Star Trek characters on the TV shows The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine, but he never played Cochran (these episodes predated his role in First Contact). He played a guest role in several episodes, including “The Hunted,” and “Starship Down.” In the movie Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Cromwell also played other Star Trek characters.

He did the voice of The Colonel in the animated movie Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, which was made by DreamWorks. Cromwell has also had some success on television over the course of his career. He was nominated for an Emmy Award in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Television Movie for his role in the TV movie RKO 281. In the fourth season of The West Wing episode “The Stormy Present,” which aired in 2004, he played former President D. Wire Newman as a guest actor. Cromwell was nominated for a third Emmy Award in 2003 for his role as George Sibley in the HBO drama series Six Feet Under, which ran from 2003 to 2005. Cromwell got the nomination for the role. Also, in 2005 and 2006, he and the other actors in his ensemble were nominated for two Screen Actors Guild Awards in the category of Best Ensemble in a Drama Series.

The next year, Cromwell was in The Queen (2006), which was nominated for an Oscar for Best Picture and won Best Actress, Helen Mirren. Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, was played by Cromwell. Also, in the sixth season of the Fox thriller drama series 24, he played Jack Bauer’s father, Phillip Bauer, in a guest-starring role.

This was part of the 50th Anniversary of the Ulster Bank Dublin Theatre Festival. The Druid Theatre Company was in charge of putting on the play. In the same year, he was given the King Vidor Memorial Award at the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival in recognition of his creative contributions to the movie business.
