Jun Ji-hyun Biography and Career:

South Korean actress and model Jun Ji-Hyun was named Wang Ji-Hyun when she was born on October 30, 1981. Her English name, Gianna Jun, also knows her. She has been honored with several accolades, including two Grand Bell Awards for Best Actress and a Daesang (Grand Prize) for Television at the Baeksang Arts Awards. The part of The Girl in the romantic comedy film My Sassy Girl (2001) was primarily responsible for Jun’s rise to prominence.

Which became a huge phenomenon all around Asia and paved the way for a breakthrough on the world stage for Korean film. Other noteworthy films include Assassination (2015), The Berlin File (2013), The Thieves (2012), and Il Mare (2000). Windstruck (2004) and The Thieves (2012) are also notable. In addition, she has had starring roles in the television series My Love from the Star (2013–2014), The Legend of the Blue Sea (2016–2017), and Jirisan (2021), as well as in the Netflix series Kingdom (2020–present).

Because of her achievements in the cinema and television industries, Jun Ji-Hyun is now considered a leading Hallyu star. The city of Seoul, in South Korea, is where Jun was born. There is a sibling who is older than she is by five years. Because she was tall and slender, her mother and the friends of her mother urged her to pursue a career as a model or actress. Her ambition since childhood was to work as a flight attendant, but after taking one, she no longer had that ambition.

She started her career as a model for Ecole Magazine in 1997, when she was just 16 years old, following in the footsteps of her high school female senior. She made her first appearance on screen in 1998 under the stage name Jun Ji-Hyun, which she had taken up at the request of a producer. Jun received his bachelor of arts degree in Theater and Film from Dongguk University in 2004, where he completed his undergraduate studies.

After that, she went on to get a master’s degree from the Digital Media and Contents graduate school at Dongguk University, which she began attending in 2011. When Jun initially came to public attention, she worked as a commercial model and an actor on television. Even though she had her acting debut in the 1999 film White Valentine, which was seen by a tiny audience, she did not become a widespread phenomenon until much later that year, when she appeared in an advertisement for the Samsung My Jet Printer.

She became a cultural figure for Koreans in their late teens and early twenties due to the dancing and attitude she displayed in the advertisement. In 2001, Jun had her first well-publicized film role in Il Mare, a wonderfully photographed melodrama set on Ganghwa Island. This film was released in late 2000. The movie established her as a significant celebrity thanks to its box office success, which was respectable even though it was released on the same day as the blockbuster picture Joint Security Area.

It was recreated in Hollywood under “Lake House” for the first time in a Korean film starring Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves. The movie was filmed in Korea. The comedy My Sassy Girl was Jun’s first significant success as a filmmaker. It told the story of a naive college boy and his somewhat off-kilter girlfriend. The “sassy, loud, and domineering character while also embodying traits of a pure-hearted girl” that Jun had was in direct opposition to the gender conventions that prevail in Asia.

It was the most-grossing Korean comedy of all time in Korea, and it also lasted two weeks at No. 1 in Hong Kong, propelling Jun into pan-Asian fame as one of the greatest Hallyu stars in the Chinese-language market. In Korea, the film became the highest-grossing Korean comedy of all time. As a result of the enormous success of “My Sassy Girl,” Jun’s reputation in South Korea was further cemented, and she was granted the title of “Nation’s First Love.”

Due to Jun’s ever-increasing fame, many businesses have requested that she promote their products. In addition, she was recognized as the year’s Best Actress by the Grand Bell Awards. In 2003, Jun was featured as the lead character in the psychological thriller film The Uninvited, which was met with generally favorable reviews from film critics but was unsuccessful in attracting audiences. During this period, she maintained a consistent presence in advertisements shown on Korean television and on billboards in Korea and other Asian nations.

She appeared as a policewoman in the romantic comedy Windstruck in 2004, working with My Sassy Girl director Kwak Jae-Yong again. Kwak Jae-Yong directed Windstruck. On the other hand, fans thought her part was much too close to My Sassy Girl. There were also indications that her popularity had begun to decline due to the excessive amount of advertising she had been subjected to.

Despite this, Windstruck became the most successful Korean film ever released in Japan, surpassing My Sassy Girl regarding box office receipts. She was recognized as one of Korea’s top ten most bankable stars in a poll conducted by significant movie producers in 2005. Daisy was Jun’s second project, in which she worked with Jung Woo-sung (who regularly featured beside her in ads for Giordano and 2% Lotte Chilsung Water). It garnered notice because it was shot entirely on location in the Netherlands, as well as the fact that it was directed by Hong Kong filmmaker Andrew Lau (Infernal Affairs).

Late in 2006, it was revealed that Jun would finally be making her long-awaited move to Hollywood when it was confirmed that she would be playing the leading role in Blood: The Last Vampire. To portray the part of the sword-wielding martial arts heroine, she put herself through three months of rigorous training. She went under the Westernized name Gianna Jun while making the movie and participating in related promotional activities before the film’s release in 2009. In 2008, Jun debuted her first celebrity line, which she called “Gianna by True Religion,” and was her premium denim brand called “Jun by True Religion.”
