Les Wexner Biography and Career:

Leslie Herbert Wexner is an American businessman who started L Brands and is now the chairman emeritus of the company. He is worth a billion dollars. On September 8, 1937, he was born. (Used to be Limited Brands) Wexner went on to build a huge business empire after he opened The Limited, a clothing store with a small selection of popular items. In 1963, Wexner’s aunt Ida gave him a loan of $5,000, which a bank doubled so he could start The Limited. The name of the store came from the fact that it almost only sold inexpensive items like skirts, sweaters, and shirts, which sold more often and made the store more money. Wexner opened his first business on August 10, 1963, in the Kingsdale Shopping Center in Upper Arlington, Ohio.

A year later, Wexner’s parents decided to sell their shop and join their son at The Limited, which he had started. In August of 1964, he opened the second Limited shop. In 1969, he went public with Limited Brands by putting the company on the NYSE under the ticker symbol LTD. Alfred Taubman is said to have been a role model for Wexner beginning in the middle of the 1960s. Throughout their careers, the two men worked together on several deals involving Taubman’s shopping malls. Wexner said of Raymond that he was “very guarded.” Six months later, when Raymond was about to lose everything, he called Wexner and offered to sell Victoria’s Secret to him. Wexner bought the business for $1 million, but by the 1990s, experts thought it was worth $1 billion. After Wexner took over Victoria’s Secret, the company became well-known for its strategy of using supermodels called “angels” to sell its products through an annual fashion show. By 2015, the company’s sales were already going down, and it turned out that Victoria’s Secret fashion show would be the last one ever in 2018.
