She is known for her poignancy and wit in comedic parts. Maggie Smith was born on December 28, 1934, in Ilford, Essex, England, and is an English stage and film actress known for her pathos and wit in comedy roles.
Smith studied acting at the Oxford Playhouse School and made his stage debut in a revue in Oxford in 1952, followed by a run in London the following year. Then originally gained public attention in the Broadway revue New Faces in 1956, and she went on to star as the principal comic in the London cabaret Share My Lettuce from 1957 to 1958. She subsequently started acting in plays at the Old Vic theatre in London, where she continued to perform frequently.
