Matthew Mercer Biography and Career:

The American voice actor Matthew Christopher Miller was born on June 29, 1982, but is better known by his professional stage name, Matthew Mercer. He is most recognized for his work as a voice actor in anime, cartoons, and video games. Levi Ackerman from Attack on Titan, Kiritsugu Emiya from Fate/Zero, Jotaro Kujo from Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Kanji Tatsumi from the second half of Persona 4: The Animation, Trafalgar Law from the Funimation re-dub of One Piece, and Hit from Dragon Ball Super are some of the anime characters that he has provided the voice for.

In the world of video games, he has provided his voice for characters such as Leon S. Kennedy in Resident Evil, Chrom in Fire Emblem, Jack Cooper in Titanfall 2, McCree in Overwatch, Yusuke Kitagawa in Persona 5, MacCready in Fallout 4, Midas and Syd in Fortnite, and Edér Teylecg in Pillars of Eternity. He has also provided the voice for these characters. In addition to working as a voice actor, he is the creator of the Dungeons & Dragons online series Critical Role, in which he also stars and serves as the Dungeon Master.

After beginning his career as an English walla and extra characters in a number of Japanese anime while Mercer was still in high school, he has since gone on to work in a range of media, including cartoons, video games, and radio ads. He has appeared as a special guest at conventions held all over the globe and has hosted at Anime Expo and Anime Matsuri, among other events. His acting career has evolved to include appearances in a variety of mediums, including cartoons, video games, and radio ads.

The online series There Will Be Brawl, which was based on the Super Smash Bros. video game franchise, was directed and produced by him. He also performed the voices for Kirby and Meta Knight, in addition to playing the character of Ganondorf in the series. In addition to that, Mercer was a producer on the online series Fear News with the Last Girl and appeared in other episodes produced by Geek & Sundry and Nerdist.

In the online series Critical Role, which was once affiliated with Geek & Sundry, Mercer plays the role of the Dungeon Master. In this role, he is responsible for guiding a group of other voice actors through a Dungeons & Dragons game. The efforts that Mercer has put in as Dungeon Master have resulted in the creation of two campaign books that have been published in his realm of Exandria.

The first one is Green Ronin Publishing’s Critical Role: Tal’Dorei Campaign Setting. You may find it on bookshelves now. The second source is the Explorer’s Guide to Wildemount, which was released by Wizards of the Coast. This book made it possible for Exandria to become an official Dungeons and Dragons campaign setting. Mercer took up the role of Dungeon Master for both seasons of Force Grey: Giant Hunters in 2016, the year the game was played.

Mercer served as the Dungeon Master for the 2017 season of the Nerdist program CelebriD&D. This show places celebrities who play Dungeons & Dragons into a short, mini-campaign in which they are partnered with role-players.

In 2017, Mercer wed his co-star from the television show Critical Role, the American actress Marisha Ray.
Matthew Mercer was invited by Liam O’Brien to run a Dungeons & Dragons one-shot for Liam’s birthday in 2012. During this time period, Matthew was constantly informing Liam about the Dungeons & Dragons game that he was presiding over and often inviting Liam to take part. Following then, the game transitioned into an ongoing Pathfinder campaign.

When Matt first started working on the campaign that would later become Critical Role, he made up his own universe and called it Exandria. He also rewrote some of the rules for the game system so that there would be more room for creativity in the narrative. Since the beginning of the campaign in 2012, he has served as the Dungeon Master for all of the games.

Matt is making a battle map right now.

Matt switched the game over from Pathfinder to Dungeons & Dragons in order to get it ready for the broadcast series. This was done since combat in Pathfinder moves more slowly than in D&D owing to a large number of different factors. D&D is also more well-known than its competitors. Due to the fact that the Gunslinger subclass was not included in the 5th Edition of D&D, Matt needed to come up with a unique fighter’s Martial Archetype for Taliesin Jaffe’s character, Percy, in order to convert their game. They worked together for a whole day to change the player character’s attributes, including his statistics and talents.

At the beginning of the show, Matt would make his own bespoke battle maps by sketching grids on pieces of paper. He later progressed to using three-dimensional maps, and now he spends a portion of each week piecing up battle maps from the many components that he has amassed over the course of his career. He created some of the pieces of the map by hand, and he also hand-painted some of the miniatures.

During the performance, Matt is in charge of the music, and with the introduction of the new Campaign Three set, he is also in charge of the ambiance lighting. Even though Matt is the Dungeon Master for the major campaigns of Critical Role, he still gets to participate in one-shots and miniseries as a player every once in a while.

In addition to his work on Critical Role, Matt was the dungeon master for the CelebriD&D miniseries that was produced by Geek & Sundry in 2017. On the show Dimension 20 which is produced by CollegeHumor, he played a role as a player on two separate occasions. The first time, he played the role of Leiland in the episode titled “Escape from the Bloodkeep,” and the second time, he played the role of Jack in the episode titled “Pirates of Leviathan.”

Both of these games had a Dungeon Master in the form of Brennan Lee Mulligan. Additionally, Matt has made guest appearances as a Dungeon Master or player on a number of other shows, including Force Grey, RealmSmith, and The Adventure Zone.

Around the middle of the 2000s, Matt started his career as a voice actor in video games. He has lent his voice to hundreds of characters in western animation and has worked on various anime dubbing projects. Jotaro Kujo from “Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure,” Levi Ackerman from “Attack on Titan,” and Cole Cassidy in “Overwatch” are just a few of the well-known characters that Matt has played.

Matt struggled with a speech impediment known as a stutter when he was younger. His father, who stammered himself, helped him find a speech therapist who was able to lessen the effects of the condition to the point where it is only triggered by particular phrases. He has disclosed his diagnosis of body dysmorphic disorder and said that he has always had issues with his physical appearance. He has done so in a number of interviews.

Matt joined the popular art club when he was a freshman in high school, which would have been about the age of 14. It was there that he first began to play Dungeons & Dragons. Matt was not immediately interested in the more technical components of Dungeons & Dragons, despite the fact that he quickly fell in love with the game. The majority of the players at the table enjoyed these features.

After seeing the possibilities of Dungeons & Dragons and the tools it offered to writers, he started Dungeon Mastering his own campaign with a narrative bent. Matthew’s first career choice was to be a scientist while he was in middle school, but he switched to wanting to be an artist when he was in high school.

When Matt decided to pursue a career in acting, he quickly learned that the entertainment world was filled with other people named Matt Miller. He changed his name from Miller to Mercer, which is a family name that goes back three generations. He did this so that people would have an easier time remembering his name. Since the “Strangers with Candy” period in the late 1990s, Matthew Mercer has been a long-time admirer of Stephen Colbert, and since July 2015, he has had him on his fantasy DnD guest star list.

Matt wed Marisha Ray on October 21, 2017, in the midst of the transition from campaign One to campaign Two. They now share their home with their dog Omar and once had a bird named Dagon. Matt presented Marisha with a video montage of their engagement as a gift on the occasion of their third wedding anniversary.

Before he proposed to her, he tricked her into what he said was an escape room by having his pals help him set it up. In the room, she had to defeat a monster and complete a series of riddles. For many years, Matt’s pastime has been participating in cosplay events. He even went so far as to cosplay as Pumat Sol at a conference, and he did it again for an advertisement for Twitch that plays during episode breaks on occasion.
