Oliver Tree Biography and Career:

When I’m Down by Oliver Tree Nickell, an American musician, producer, rapper, comedian, and filmmaker. He is also well-known for his work as an artist, which combines elements of memes and other, more enigmatic forms of expression. He has performed as support for such acts as Tyler, the Creator, Nero, and Frank Ocean, and his stage name is Tree in his musical incarnation. At the age of 17, he started making videos and slideshows for shows like Skrillex and Zeds Dead, and at 18, he started releasing music under his middle name, Tree.

At age 18, Tree got a deal with London’s R&S Records, and the following year, his first EP, Demons, was released. Having Radiohead’s lead singer, Thom Yorke, approve of his cover of “Karma Police” on the EP helped bring him a lot of attention. Tree’s “Money Machine” single and video premiered on the 6th of December. Along with the song, the tree also revealed the March 27, 2020 release date for his first album, Ugly is Beautiful.

On March 25, 2020, Tree announced to its Twitter followers that, owing to the ongoing COVID-19 epidemic, the publication of the book “Ugly is Beautiful” will be delayed. Despite the album’s June 19 announcement date, it will not be available for purchase until June 12. On May 26, 2020, with a budget of just $6, Tree unveiled the first music video in a series for “Bury Me Alive” from Ugly’s Beautiful. Tree’s love of hip-hop and electronic music inspired him to become a DJ and join the rap group Mindfuck while he was still in high school.

As Tree, he has opened for the likes of Tyler, the Creator, Nero, and Frank Ocean, and he has also released music under his own name. He attended San Francisco State University for his undergraduate studies and the California Institute of the Arts for his graduate work in music technology.

He’s been working in the show business for nearly 30 years, and he’s enjoyed nothing but success and renown throughout that time. From his work as a musician, producer, singer, songwriter, and comedian, he has amassed modest wealth. His fortune is estimated to be over $700,000.

With the release of “Hurt” on December 7, 2018, Tree debuted the music video for the second song on his first album, Ugly Is Beautiful. The music video for the song he co-wrote and co-directed with rising music video filmmaker Brendan Vaughan was shot in Ukraine. More than a million people saw the music video for “Hurt” in the first week, and the song was heavily played on the radio. On April 11, 2019, in tandem with the release of the song of the same name, Tree launched his third music video.

According to YouTube, The Miracle Man’s fourth music video for a single song was released on June 7, 2019, and had over 1.3 million views on its first day of release. On the 12th of June of this year, he will deliver his farewell tour. “Kid Laroi’s latest music video borrows several shots from my videos,” he says throughout the video. I’m sick and tired of them using me,” said the artist, referring to the exploitation of independent musicians by major labels.

As Tree saw the new music video for “Thousand Miles” by Laroi, he couldn’t help but see similarities to four of his own old music videos. There are scenes of the musicians being dragged behind cars, of a piano almost caving down on top of them, and of an ambulance crashing into them. Some of the less comparable instances were Tree and Laroi forcing their heads out of car windows and lying hurt on the ground in a similar position.

Tree said that the director of the “Thousand Miles” music video, Christian Breslauer, also happens to be one of his Instagram followers, so it is likely not Lario’s fault. The tree then used The Office-inspired meme to provide a basis for subsequent comparison of the videos. The bulk of his devotees shared his view that this was impossible by accident and was instead the result of intentional plagiarism. Some of Tree’s fans even commented negatively on the music video that Breslauer posted on Instagram but has since removed.

Kid Laroi’s new music video for “Thousand Miles” allegedly uses some stolen visuals from Oliver Tree’s music videos, as shown by the artist’s current TikTok. He draws an analogy between the scene in “Asshole” in which Lil Yachty rides a moped while pulling Kid Laroi and the one in which Tree is pulled by a car, saying that the former is just as disturbing as the latter (in which Tree features).

The movie “Miracle Man” has many unbelievable events, including a piano crash and the singer being hit by an ambulance. Tree, in the film “Hurt,” drives about while wearing a large hat, which is compared to a scene in which a version of Kid Laroi drives a train.

The moment in “Alien” when Tree is laying on the ground after being hit by a car is compared to the flattened form of Kid Laroi after he has been plowed over by a steam roller. That Kid Laroi isn’t always at fault is something Tree acknowledged. The music video’s director, Christian Breslauer, is the one he holds accountable. A quick trip to Breslauer’s Instagram page will reveal that

The tree used the site to show that Breslauer follows more than 2,100 people, suggesting that Breslauer would have had access to Tree’s profile and hence his work. As of this writing, Breslauer also follows Tree on Instagram. Yet another comment made allusion to the trolling tendencies of the singer and internet celebrity, saying, “I can’t even tell when Oliver is being serious at this point but that’s literally copied lol.”

According to Breslauer’s Instagram, the Spy vs. Spy comics served as inspiration for the music video for “Thousand Miles,” in which a red version of Kid Laroi viciously attacks a white version of himself.

Both “Miracle Man” and “Thousand Miles” end with views of an ambulance, and both performances include the singer being carried on the back of a truck while singing. Some of the pictures, though, are a bit of a stretch, such as the one where the musicians are all laying on the ground after a crash.

Others have pointed out Tree’s history of trolling and have suggested that this whole thing was just a publicity stunt to get people interested in Kid Laroi and Tree’s new music and to draw attention to a video Tree posted in March in which he falsely claimed that Lil Nas X had sent him a cease and desist notice for allegedly stealing “Old Town Road” from his song “Cowboys Don’t Cry,” even though the two songs are stylistically very different. He (the tree) has denied stealing the tune. According to a February interview with Variety, Oliver Tree the artist is not the same guy as Oliver Tree the internet celebrity (who, according to Tree, has little interest in using social media).
