Tori Amos Biography and Career:

Tori Amos’ parents, Mary Ellen and the Reverend Edison Amos welcomed her into the world on August 22, 1963, in North Carolina. She began playing the piano when she was two years old and had begun composing by the time she was five. Her scholarship enabled her to enroll in the Preparatory Division at the ‘Peabody Conservatory of Music,’ where she currently resides.

After discovering rock and pop music at the age of 11, she refused to learn how to read music sheet music and became a musician herself. Following her dismissal from school, she began performing in gay bars and piano bars under the supervision of her father. In 1977, she was the winner of a county adolescent talent competition with her song ‘More Than Just a Friend.’

After establishing herself as a pianist in Washington, D.C., she relocated to Los Angeles in order to pursue a musical career. Her marriage to English sound engineer Mark Hawley took place in 1998. Natashya Lórien Hawley, their daughter, was born two years after their marriage. The novelist Neil Gaiman considers her to be a close personal friend. It was in her song ‘Tear in Your Hand’ that he was acknowledged by name.

Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network (RAINN), a toll-free helpline in the United States that connects callers with their local rape crisis center, is supported by this prolific musician. The proceeds from a concert held to commemorate her 50th birthday were donated to RAINN International. In 1986, she formed a music ensemble known as ‘Y Kant Tori Read’ to commemorate her time at the Peabody Conservatory, which continues to this day.

The Y Kant Tori Read’s self-titled debut album was published in 1988 on the Y Kant label. Following the failure of the album, she began working as a backup vocalist for other well-known performers. At around the same time, she wrote the screenplay for the film ‘China O’Brien’, which was titled ‘Distant Storm.’ The song is credited to a group known as ‘Tess Makes Good’, which is mentioned in the credits.

Little Earthquakes, her debut studio album, was recorded in 1992 under the terms of a contract with a record label. Her debut studio album, ‘Under the Pink,’ was published in 1994 and peaked at number 12 on the Billboard 200, earning her a nomination for a Grammy Award for ‘Best Alternative Music Album.’ The album ‘From the Choirgirl Hotel’ was released in 1998, and it did not contain any of Amos’s typical piano-based music, which was a departure from her previous work.

In its first week of release, the book sold more than 153,000 copies. ‘Best Alternative Music Album’ was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of “Best Alternative Music Album.” Her album ‘To Venus and Back’ was published in 1999, and it received overwhelmingly good reviews. A major-label single from the album was made available for purchase as a digital download, making it the first of its kind.

A Grammy nomination was given to the album in the category of “Alternative Music Album.” As part of a contractual duty with the record label ‘Atlantic,’ she recorded songs written by males about women and flipped the gender roles to reflect a woman’s point of view in 2001 to meet a contractual commitment with the label. As a result, the album ‘Strange Little Girls’ was nominated for a Grammy award.

She was able to remove new music from the CD since she believed that the Atlantic had not effectively promoted her work. Following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, her 2002 release, ‘Scarlet’s Walk,’ a sonic novel concept album, coupled with a cross-country concert tour, made a successful debut and was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America.

Her retrospective compilation ‘Tales of a Librarian’ was published a year after her first book. Ann Powers and Amos co-wrote an autobiography titled “Piece by Piece” in 2005 to coincide with the release of the album “The Beekeeper. A two-disc DVD package titled ‘Fade to Red’ was released in 2006 to commemorate the 15th anniversary of her solo career, as was a five-disc box set titled ‘A Piano: The Collection,’ which was released in 2007.

Album tracks from the album were remastered, as were remixes and alternate mixes. Demos were also included, as was a collection of previously unreleased songs from the album recording sessions. Her tenth solo studio album, titled ‘Abnormally Attracted to Sin,’ was published in 2009 and became her seventh to chart in the top ten of the Billboard 200. She has also released two EPs.

Midwinter Graces was her second album, which was released later in the year and included traditional carols that have been reinterpreted. In 2010, she recorded vocals for ‘Fatboy Slim’ and published the highly exclusive live album ‘From Russia With Love’, which was available only to members of the press. On her first classical music CD, ‘Night of Hunters,’ she paid respect to composers such as Bach, Chopin, Debussy; Granados; Satie; and Schubert.

The album was released in 2011 and is available on iTunes. In 2012, she published her debut album, ‘Gold Dust,’ and launched her own record label, ‘Transmission Galactic.’ The single ‘Wait Until Tomorrow’ was recorded in conjunction with the band ‘The Bullitts’ for their debut album, ‘They Die By Dawn & Other Short Stories, which was released in 2013. ‘Unrepentant Guidelines’ was her fourteenth studio album, which was released in 2014.
