Veronica Roth Biography and Career:

Veronica Roth is the youngest of three children and was born in New York. However, after her parents divorced when she was five years old, she spent the majority of her childhood in Barrington, Illinois. After completing her high school education at Barrington, she went on to attend Carleton College in the state of Minnesota. She attended Carleton University for one year before transferring to Northwestern University in Illinois, where she completed her education and earned a degree in creative writing. Her first novel, Divergent, was written over the winter break of her senior year at Northwestern and was published the following year in 2011.

The critically acclaimed young adult novel Divergent is the first instalment in a trilogy that also includes Insurgent (2012) and Allegiant (2015). (2013). The author’s own personality played a role in her decision to give Tris, the protagonist of the novel, a streak of recklessness that runs throughout the story. Roth, in contrast to Tris, has generalized anxiety disorder and avoids situations in which he might be exposed to physical danger.
