Lois W. Kolkhorst Biography and Career:

Lois Kolkhorst is a member of the Texas State Senate, which represents District 18. In 2015, she took office. Its term expires on 9 January 2023.Kolkhorst (Republican Party) ran to represent District 18 for re-election in the Texas Senate.

Kolkhorst was a former Republican representative of District 13 in the Texas House of Representatives from 2001 until 2015.

Senator Lois W. Kolkhorst has ancient origins in Texas War of Independence and is Texas’ sixth generation. A native of Brenham, she graduated from TCU and played golf.

In December 2014, after serving 14 years in the Texas House, Kolkhorst was elected to the Texas Senate in a special election. Recognized as a fiscal conservative, she is a member of the Senate Finance Committee and served in the State Budget Conference-Committee three times. She recently served on the state budget $209 billion during the final discussions in 2015. She also serves as vice-chair of the Health and Human Services Committee of the Senate and has drawn up benchmark legislation to enforce Texas medical privacy regulations. She received state-wide attention for healthcare providers to design alternatives to Obamacare.

She represents all or part of 21 Texas counties and draughts several legislation to protect private property. She is a member of the Senate Transport Committee as well as the Senate of Agriculture and Water and Rural Affairs Committee.

Known for common sense, Kolkhorst has spearheaded numerous state-wide projects and drafted bills affecting every Texas law code. She has made national headlines to organise protest to the network of foreign toll highways on the Trans Texas Corridor. Her campaign to reduce regulatory impediments for small-scale food producers has triggered a “food freedom” wave across Texas including in Forbes Magazine in recent years. Her long-standing efforts to promote Texas tourism earned her the Silver Spur award from the Texas Tourism Industry Association.

She has helped to secure more than EUR 900 million for border security to combat human smuggling and drug trafficking and sat on the Texas Sunset Commission to minimise government waste and worked with law enforcement authorities to restructure and reorganise the Texas Public Safety Department. She has often worked with CASA and has been awarded a statewide prize for her efforts to protect children.

Senator Kolkhorst has repeatedly received awards and has received endorsment from Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers, Texas Farm Bureau, Texas Wildlife Association, the NRA (NRA), Texas State Rifle Association, Texans for Law Reform, Texas Department of Public Safety Officers Association) and the Texas Young Conservatives Association.
