Since November 2017, Canadian journalist Adrienne Arsenault has served as The National’s co-anchor and CBC News’ chief correspondent. Having its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival last year, the documentary Oscar Peterson: Black + White had a successful run as well, winning awards for best biography and best arts documentary program or series. While producer Mark Selby received the Barbara Sears award for best visual research, director Barry Avrich won the award for best documentary program direction.

The first season of the CBC show “Sort Of” is nominated for the most awards in the television categories, receiving 13. “Pretty Hard Cases” and “Wynonna Earp” on the CTV Sci-Fi Channel and CBC’s “Coroner” and “Kim’s Convenience” each received 11 nominations. This year, ET Canada from Corus Entertainment was nominated for eight CSA awards, including Best Entertainment News Program or Series. John Young, the head of the Academy, added: “In this time of isolation, the arts have functioned as a crucial point of connection that keeps communities together and fosters their growth via the strength of motivating narrative. These deserving 2022 Canadian Screen Award nominees are accomplishing it via their perseverance. Recognizing people who are leaving a lasting impression at a time when we most need it is an honor.

The majority of the 2022 Canadian Screen Awards will be handed out in a nine-part series of genre-based virtual shows during Canadian Screen Week 2022. All of these shows will be streamed live on Academy.ca from Monday, April 4, to Friday, April 8, as well as on the Canadian Academy Twitter and YouTube channels.

With 11 nominations each, “Scarborough” by Shasha Nakhai and Rich Williamson and “Night Raiders” by Danis Goulet leads the film categories. Additionally, with eight nominations each, “21 Black Futures” and “For the Record” are in first place among the digital media nominees, followed by “The Communist’s Daughter” with six. The CEO of the Canadian Academy, Beth Janson, remarked, “We are so fortunate to once again recognize the outstanding Canadians who have managed to create exceptional works of art during these challenging times.” The strength of Canada’s screen-based industries is demonstrated by the innovation and tenacity of the 2022 Canadian Screen Award nominees, and we are delighted to recognize them.

Producer Quincy Jones, musicians Billy Joel and Jon Batiste, and the famed Canadian jazz pianist are all included in the documentary. On Crave, it is presently being streamed. While Belle Puri, a reporter/producer for CBC Vancouver News at 6, won the award for a best local reporter, CBC’s flagship nightly show The National took home the medal for the best national newscast. On Monday’s opening night of the Canadian Screen Accolades, CBC took home 11 awards, while the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network  received four, including the best news or information series.

Arsenault received her Head Girl diploma from St. Clement’s School in 1986, a BA from the University of Western Ontario in 1990, and an MA in Journalism in 1991. Arsenault first became interested in broadcasting at CHRW radio while she was a student at Western. For her work on The National, which included a feature titled Healing Hikkaduwa, Arsenault was nominated for five Gemini Awards and won two in 2008 in the categories of Best Reportage and Best News Magazine Segment. She has received honors from the Radio and Television News Directors Association, the New York and Columbus festivals, and the American Society of Professional Journalists.

She served as Senior Correspondent on a team that received the News & Documentary Emmy Award in September 2015 for its coverage of the Liberian Ebola virus epidemic.At the 7th Canadian Screen Awards in 2019, she took home the prize for Best Host or Interviewer in a News or Information Program or Series. She was among a select group of Western journalists who were permitted entry into Zimbabwe in 2008 so they could cover the election there.
