Al Sharpton Biography and Career:

Al Sharpton, whose full name is Alfred Charles Sharpton, Jr., is an American civil rights activist, politician, and minister. He is best known for founding the National Action Network in 1991 and later hosting a political talk show on MSNBC. Sharpton was born in Brooklyn, New York, United States, on October 3, 1954. Sharpton started preaching when he was four years old and received his ordination as a Pentecostal preacher when he was ten.

In 1971, he was the founder of a national youth movement that advocated for African Americans’ rights to social and economic justice. In 1972, he received his diploma from Tilden High School in Brooklyn, and he attended Brooklyn College for a short period of time. He was a colorful and well-known character in the African American community, and he was known for engaging in contentious demonstrations that received widespread attention in the national media and sometimes led to confrontations with the enforcement. In 1991, Al Sharpton established the National Action Network as a civil rights organization.

Its mission was to advocate for progressive policies, such as reparations for African Americans for the enslavement of their ancestors and affirmative action. Sharpton established the National Action Network in 1991. Sharpton joined the political arena in the 1990s and ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic Party primaries for mayor of New York City and U.S. senator from New York state. His political career began in the 1960s. In 2004, he made an unsuccessful bid to be the Democratic nominee for the President of the United States of America.

In the years that followed, Sharpton became the host of a radio talk program. As a television commentator, he also made numerous appearances, and in 2011, he started hosting a news-and-opinion program on the cable channel MSNBC. He also appeared often as a television commentator. During this time, he continued his involvement in the civil rights movement. Most notably, he was the organizer of the One Thousand Ministers March for Justice, which took place in 2017 on the 54th anniversary of the historic March on Washington.

This event was a demonstration against racism as well as the administration of President Donald Trump. In the year 2020, Al Sharpton gave a eulogy for George Floyd, an African American man whose death while in police custody prompted widespread protests throughout the country. In 1996, Sharpton’s autobiography titled “Go and Tell Pharaoh” was released to the public. This book was co-written by Anthony Walton. Among his other works, you may find the book titled “Rise Up: Confronting a Country at the Crossroads” (2020).

Reverend Al Sharpton is demanding that Robert Sarver be removed from his position as governor of the Phoenix Suns and the Phoenix Mercury in light of the decision made by the NBA to impose a fine and suspension on Robert Sarver for his racist and sexist actions. An independent investigation found that Sarver used the n-word at least five times “when recounting the statements of others,” which resulted in the National Basketball Association issuing a statement announcing he has been suspended for one year and fined $10 million. The suspension comes as a result of the findings of the investigation.

In addition, the league said that there were “instances of inequitable behavior targeting female workers,” which included “inappropriate remarks about their physical appearance,” as well as “sex-related comments in the workplace.” After a report was published in November 2021 by ESPN’s Baxter Holmes that detailed allegations of racism and misogyny within the Suns organization during the entirety of Sarver’s term as governor, the NBA decided to launch an investigation into the working conditions in Phoenix. This investigation was commissioned by the NBA.

In the wake of a TMZ report that allegedly contained audio of Donald Sterling making racist comments to his girlfriend, V. Stiviano, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver fined the then-Governor of the Los Angeles Clippers, Donald Sterling, $2.5 million and banned him for life in April of 2014. The report contained audio of Sterling allegedly making the comments. Before the league proceeded through with a scheduled vote to terminate the Sterlings’ ownership of the club, Donald Sterling’s wife, Shelly, arranged a sale of the Clippers to Steve Ballmer for a price of $2 billion. Ballmer bought the team from the Sterlings.

According to Holmes and Adrian Wojnarowski, even though the NBA’s statement said that Sarver cooperated fully with the investigation, he “was unaccepting of the idea that he deserved a one-year suspension and $10M fine for his behavior.” This is despite the fact that the NBA said that Sarver cooperated fully with the investigation. In April of 2004, Sarver acquired the Suns for what was then a league record price of $401 million. His acquisition of the NBA franchise from the previous governor, Jerry Colangelo, included the WNBA franchise for the Mercury as well.
After hearing the findings of a 10-month inquiry, the Reverend Al Sharpton has even more grounds to demand for the ouster of Robert Sarver as the owner of the Phoenix Suns franchise.

“While I commend the league for taking this step, the report findings clearly show that Mr. Sarver has perpetrated egregious acts of racism and misogyny and should no longer be welcome in the back office or on the sidelines,” Sharpton said in a statement that was distributed through his National Action Network. “While I commend the league for taking this step, the report findings clearly show that Mr. Sarver has perpetrated egregious acts of racism and misogyny An ESPN report published in November 2021 detailed allegations of racism and misogyny against Sarver. The report also claimed that Sarver had created a “toxic” work environment within the Suns’ organization. These allegations prompted the National Basketball Association to open an investigation into the matter.

“I encourage the Board of Governors of the (NBA) to hold Mr. Sarver fully accountable for his actions, and to vote for his removal from the league in recognition that his behavior does not represent the values of the NBA,” you said. “It is clear that Mr. Sarver’s actions do not align with those of the NBA.” As a consequence of an inquiry that was carried out by Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, Sarver will be penalized with a $10 million fine and barred from participating in any activities involving the Suns or Mercury for a period of one year. Following the conclusion of the inquiry, Sarver was found to have “repeated the N-word on at least five times throughout his career with the Suns/Mercury organization, while recalling the words of others.”
