Alexandra Stan Biography and Career:

Romanian singer and composer Alexandra Ioana Stan was born on June 10, 1989. She made her debut internationally with the 2011 song Mr. Saxobeat, which was written by Marcel Prodan and produced by Andrei Nemirschi. In 2009, they signed Stan to Maan Records after discovering her at a karaoke club.

The singer’s first success in her own nation came from her first album, Lollipop (Param Pam Pam). Early commercial success in Romania and beyond propelled Mr. Saxobeat to the top of the charts in many nations. Her first studio album, Saxobeats, was out in August 2011 and included the song Get Back (ASAP), which was the follow-up to the somewhat successful Lemonade in Europe.

The debut of Stan’s second album, Unlocked, which had been planned for 2013, was pushed back to August 2014 due to an alleged confrontation with Prodan in 2013. Dance and Cherry Pop were both top-charting songs there. With the release of his third studio album Alesta in March 2016, Stan teamed up with Inna and Daddy Yankee for the hit single “We Wanna,” which charted in the top 60 in a number of countries. In 2018, she released Mami, her fourth studio album.

Stan has been nominated for and awarded many prestigious prizes and honors, including the European Border Breakers Award, the Japan Gold Disc Award, the MTV Europe Music Award, and the Romanian Music Award. Alongside Inna, she is often mentioned as one of Romania’s most successful performers.

Thanks for Leaving, Stan’s comeback song from April 2014, was a very emotional statement for the artist. The subsequent Cherry Pop ringtone was the most requested ringtone on Japan’s Recochoku service within two hours of its release, and the Dance had similar popularity upon its debut. Stan’s second studio album, Unlocked, was released in August 2014 and peaked inside the top 30 on the Japanese album charts. As of late, Stan has been under the wing of Fonogram Records’ new contract.

Give Me Your Everything is the fourth song from Unlocked, and its music video was met with backlash due to a moment in which Stan wears a robe with masonic emblems. After the record came out, Stan went on the Unlocked Tour with his Romanian dance crew, StanBoyz. Later in 2014, Stan sang the Catalan version of Strong Enough by Cher in the Spanish charity event La Marato, and she also made an appearance as a special guest at the Las Palmas Carnival in the Canary Islands.

Stan’s We Wanna, featuring Inna of Romania and Daddy Yankee of the United States, was released in June 2015. It charted in the top 60 in a number of countries, including Romania, Argentina, and Italy. In the latter part of the world, it was awarded the Gold standard. In addition to her musical career, Stan has been active in environmental and social concerns.

In 2016, she planted a tree in her honor at the Expo held in Antalya, Turkey. Along with other successful Romanian women, she was named Best Pop Artist at the Elle Style Awards România, an honor she would repeat in 2016. Her track “I Did It, Mama!” was released in November 2015 and quickly became a hit in Romania. The singer then went on a Japanese tour to promote her third studio album Alesta, which was released in March 2016. On the Japanese Albums Chart, it debuted at position #34. Later that year, Stan debuted in the fashion industry with her Alesta X Bershka line of clothes, which was sold only in Japan.

In 2016, she debuted her first single for the group G Girls, which she formed with Antonia, Inna, and Lori. The song was titled “Call the Police,” and it was a huge hit in Poland. Her own musical label, Alexandra Stan Records, was also just released. Stan did a rendition of Madonna’s “Like a Virgin” to promote the debut of Virgin Radio Romania in early 2017, claiming that she loved the original version of the song. She also contributed the opening song, Favorite Game, to the soundtrack of the Japanese film Miko Girl.

In October 2017, Stan attended the world premiere of his picture at the 30th Tokyo International Film Festival. Stan’s fourth studio album, named Mami, was published in April of 2018 and charted at position 119 in her native Japan. For the first time since 2011’s Mr. Saxobeat, Stan has been included on an American Billboard chart thanks to her guest vocals on Manuel Riva’s single Miami, which peaked in the top 10 of the US Dance Club Songs list.

In Romania, it also cracked the top 10. The singer performed as the 2018 Never sea Festival’s opening act; the city of Miami served as the festival’s theme that year. Stan received an honor at the 2018 Beirut International Awards Festival for her work. I Think I Love It, her first song as a lead artist in almost a year after Mami, was released in June of 2019 after the singer spent several months in the United States. Two other record labels, Universal Music Romania and MediaPro Music signed her.

An interview with Stan at the 2012 European Border Breakers Awards revealed that the many cultures present in her native Constanța had had an impact on her songwriting. The likes of Michael Jackson, Madonna, Adele, Rihanna, David Guetta, Sia, and Robbie Williams were also cited as inspirations in another interview.

Some tracks on Stan’s first studio album Saxobeats included saxophone in addition to the more common instruments used in hi-NRG, dance, electronic, house, and Eurodance. Stan has shown an eagerness to learn more about the instrument because of its widespread usage in her area. It’s become a defining characteristic of her unique “Saxobeat” sound, which she first introduced with this album.

The dance, techno, pop, and R&B influences on Unlocked have been called “an development in her talent” by one reviewer. Thanks for Leaving is the first ballad Stan has ever recorded, and it appears on this album. The song “Cherry Pop,” which can be found on the same album, employs a Japanese pop style that Stan deemed “boring.” “a kind of music I haven’t explored much before, but which seems like it might suit me.

To me, J-pop is full of life and excitement because of its upbeat nature.” In a 2018 interview, Stan commented on the substance of her first four studio albums: “Each record depicts a period in my life as a woman. On Saxobeats, I displayed the defiance typical of adolescents coming of age; on Unlocked, I rediscover and reopen myself to the audience through the lyrics of songs; on Alesta, I aimed to provide my fans with upbeat music; and on Mami, I experience the greatest sense of female identity I’ve ever had.”

One of the most successful Romanian performers, besides Inna, is said to be Stan. She is “the type of young upstart pop diva that it’s impossible to detect, but hard to take seriously,” as Mike Schiller of PopMatters put it in his review of Saxobeats. Stan is regularly profiled in the press for her “sexy” public appearances and picture sessions.

A part of the music video for I Did It, Mama! has Stan and a background dancer acting out a sexual act, which was reportedly the reason the video was banned in Romania, according to Romanian Cancan and Click! media.

Stan claims to be a “non-traditional Christian” with her own set of religious ideas and a firm belief in God. Stan has resided in many different cities throughout the years, including Bucharest, Los Angeles, and Constanța. The singer, at just 16 years old, dated Romanian actor and recording artist Dorian Popa, but their relationship ended due to infidelity allegations.

Even though Stan denied any romantic involvement, Prodan and others testified as much throughout Stan’s lawsuit against her. Stan dated Bogdan Stăruială from 2014 till this year. In 2017, Stan revealed that she had sought treatment for PTSD and low self-esteem as a result of bullying from peers in her teens. At the same time, she admitted that she had had lesbian encounters in the past.
