American Pickers Biography and Career:

The show follows antique and collectible pickers Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz as they travel across the United States in search of various artifacts to acquire (or “pick”) for the purpose of reselling, providing to their customers or adding to their own personal collections. In addition, several of the other people they encounter along the road make appearances on the show. Danielle Colby manages the office of Antique Archaeology, which is owned and run by Wolfe and is located in their house in Le Claire, Iowa.

More recently, they opened a second facility in Nashville, Tennessee, which allows her to manage the business from either of these two locations. They used to travel in a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van, but now they use a Ford Transit for all of their transportation needs. Fritz has his own shop upriver in Savanna, Illinois, and he also used to run a website called Frank Fritz Finds, but it has since been taken offline. Fritz sells the artifacts he has gathered both in his own shop and on his website.

The men take the road and not only follow the leads that Colby has supplied but also indulge in “freestyling,” which means stopping at areas that have the potential to contain items that are valuable enough to purchase. Colby has provided the men with a number of leads to follow. In addition to that, they choose several different occurrences of particular areas. During the first episode of the series, Wolfe and Fritz take turns narrating it for the audience.

During the first three seasons of the show, the introduction was somewhat lengthy; however, beginning with Season 4, a shortened version of the introduction was used: We are known as pickers in this community. In pursuit of gold that has been tarnished by time and the elements, we travel over the back roads of the United States. We are looking through the attics and barns of various individuals with the hopes of finding some spectacular buried treasures.

Things that the vast majority of people regard to be worthless actually contain dollar signs, at least in our eyes. We are prepared to make any purchase if we believe there is a chance that we can make a profit from it. Each and every one of the objects that we choose comes with its very own story to tell. And what about the people that we meet along the way? To put it more succinctly, they belong to a species that is absolutely unmatched by any other.

We make a living by educating people about the history of the United States, one aspect at a time, and doing so piece by piece is how we do it. Mike and Frank go into the homes, barns, sheds, and other structures that people in different regions of the world have used to store antiques and treasures in their quest to find “Antiques Roadshow.” Hoarders, amateur and professional collectors, and those who amass things for no particular reason are all encouraged to participate, as are persons who have inherited vast collections of goods that they don’t know what to do with.

Wolfe, who began the hobby of picking at the age of four, has a special interest in vintage motorbikes, air-cooled Volkswagens (which Wolfe pronounces “votes-wagon”), old bicycles, and penny-farthings. Wolfe has been selecting since that age. On the other side, Fritz has a penchant for vintage toys, oil cans, and older Honda automobiles, and he has a special passion for things that are related to peanuts.

Since he was four years old, Wolfe has been engaged with picking. They have obtained old advertisements and commercial signage, film posters, a one-of-a-kind visible 15-gallon gasoline pump, as well as a Piaggio Ape (pronounced: ah-pay), which one of their friends has informed them is most likely the only one of its kind in North America. In the episode of American Pickers that aired in December 2011, it was discovered that Antique Archaeology had leased a portion of a historic car factory in Nashville, Tennessee.

This particular facility had been in existence since 1914 and had initially made the Marathon automobile. This was done so that the amount of distance that needed to be traveled in order to carry their discoveries from the southern states could be cut down to a more manageable level. The episode “One Man’s Trash” from the seventeenth season of NCIS, which aired on March 13, 2018, had a cameo appearance by Mike Wolfe, who played himself in the role of himself. The news that Frank Fritz would be quitting the cast of American Pickers was shared by The History Channel on July 21, 2021.
