Arthur Blank Biography and Career:

Arthur M. Blank is an American businessman and author who lives in New York City. Bernard Marcus, Ron Brill, Patrick Farrah, and Kenneth Langone were among the founding partners of The Home Depot, a retailing company that sells home improvement products in the United States. Blank, a native New Yorker, received his bachelor’s degree from Babson College and began his professional career at Arthur Young & Company.

Later, he worked for the Daylin Corporation, where he met Marcus and got acquainted with him. Following an internal power struggle at Daylin in 1978, they were both sacked from their jobs. They were able to start The Home Depot within a year. It has since grown to become the largest home improvement retailer in the entire United States of America.

Blank now serves as the chairman of AMB Group LLC, the chairman of The Arthur Blank Family Foundation, and as a member of the Emory University Board of Trustees, among other positions. He is the primary owner of the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League (NFL), as well as the owner of the Atlanta United FC of the Major League Soccer (MLS), which he also formed through his company, AMB Group LLC.

Blank began his professional career as a senior accountant with Arthur Young and Company after graduating from Babson College. In 1993, the couple decided to call it quits. Stephanie Blank, a North Carolina native and Appalachian State University graduate who would become his second wife, first met him while working as a designer for him at a Home Depot shop in Atlanta.

Blank declared on February 9, 2016, that he had prostate cancer, but stressed that it was treatable if caught early. On March 17, 2016, he announced that the therapy had been successful and that he had been cancer-free for several months.

The Home Depot was created in Marietta, Georgia, United States of America, in 1978 by Arthur Blank and Marcus with the assistance of merchandising specialist Patrick Farrah. Kenneth Langone, an investment banker, was responsible for assembling the original group of investors. Ron Brill was the company’s first employee, having joined the company in 1982.

In September 2004, he purchased the Georgia Force of the Arena Football League and later relocated the franchise from suburban Gwinnett County to the Atlanta metropolitan area.

The league itself terminated off operations in 2009, and the Force, along with the other franchises, followed suit shortly thereafter. In the past, Blank had expressed interest in owning the Atlanta Braves of Major League Baseball, but that did not materialize. The Major League Soccer franchise Atlanta United FC, which he founded in 2014 and which became active in the league in 2017, is named after him.

Current positions include chairman of AMB Group LLC, through which he controls Atlanta United FC and is a majority owner of the Atlanta Falcons, and vice-chairman of AMB Group LLC. He also serves as chairman of The Arthur Blank Family Foundation and is a member of the Board of Trustees of Emory University, where he has been since 2005.

Arthur Blank, Marcus, and writer Bob Andelman collaborated on the non-fiction book ‘Built from Scratch: How a Couple of Regular Guys Grew the Home Depot from Nothing to $30 Billion,’ which was published in 2012. Crown Business published it in 1999, and it is a classic. Springer-Verlag New York, LLC published his book, ‘Choices in Palliative Care,’ which was released in 2007.
