Auston Matthews is an American ice-hockey player who plays professionally and can develop into a star center player at the highest level. His future is looking perspective and bright. Although he spent his childhood in Arizona, he was born in California. When he was younger, he excelled in baseball and ice hockey. He decided to put his energy towards ice hockey as he got older. It has been said that he is a naturally agile skater who can pick up his pace swiftly.

Matthews plays the game with self-assurance and a high skill level. He was an integral part of the United States team that won the “World U-17 Hockey Challenge” once and the “IIHF World U18 Championship” twice. Additionally, he competed for the United States of America in the ‘IIHF World U20 Championship.’ He played for the ‘ZSC Lions’ in the ‘Swiss National League A’ (NLA) for a whole season and was awarded many accolades for his performance in the ‘NLA.’

The ‘Toronto Maple Leafs’ chose Matthews with the first overall pick in the ‘National Hockey League’ (NHL) draft in 2016. This took place in 2016. It was a record for him to score four goals in his first game in the National Hockey League (NHL), and he went on to win the Calder Trophy as the best rookie in the league. He has already accomplished many significant things as a young athlete with great potential. At the moment, he resides in Toronto, which is located in Canada.

Matthews entered the world on September 17, 1997, in San Ramon, California, in the United States of America. Athletes have been in his family for generations. His father, Brian Matthews, is from the state of California and was a collegiate baseball player. Ema, who is his mother, is originally from Mexico. Alexandria is Matthews’ older sister, while Breyana is the youngest of the two of her sisters. When he was a tiny child, his family uprooted and relocated to Scottsdale, Arizona.

When he was a kid, he would often go with his parents to see the local ‘Phoenix Coyotes games. Because of this, he started taking an interest in ice hockey. When he was 5, he had a clear bias for the activity. Baseball and ice hockey were two sports he participated in as a youngster. Because of his great hand–eye coordination, he became an outstanding baseball player.

He joined a spring hockey league when he was 12 and played for two years. The ‘Arizona Bobcats’ minor hockey program that his club participated in included players who were the kids of previous ice-hockey players. Former ‘Phoenix Coyotes player and general manager Claude Lemieux was responsible for assembling one of his teams. Matthews received his instruction from Boris Dorozhenko, a former ice-hockey player from Ukraine who had previously worked as a coach in Mexico.

Boris lived with the Matthews family for a few years after relocating to the United States of America.
Matthews decided to further his education and enrolled in several online classes offered by the ‘University of Nebraska Omaha.’ His older sister assisted him with his assignments while he was having fun in Switzerland. In 2012, Matthews was picked (by the ‘Everett Silvertips’) in the ‘WHL Bantam Draft,’ however, he decided to play for the ‘US National U17 team instead of joining the Everett Silvertips. Fans of ice hockey were paying attention to him because of his game.

The following season, he played for the ‘US National U18 squad and amassed 116 points by scoring 55 goals, making 61 assists, and totaling 116 points. He finished first overall and beat Patrick Kane’s record of 102 points from the ‘National Team Development Program’ in 2005–2006. In September of 2013, during his second game with the “U-17 NTDP,” he shattered his femur after being involved in a knee-to-knee collision with another player.

He needed surgery, but he made a full recovery by December 2013 and scored 12 goals and 33 points in 24 games. In the latter part of the season, he also participated in the “U-18 NTDP.”At the ‘2014 IIHF World U18 Championship,’ he was a pivotal contributor to the American team’s success, earning the championship’s top prize. In the same vein, the team’s success, thanks to him in the 2015 IIHF World U18 Championship, made them the gold medal.

In May 2015, he was presented with the ‘USA Hockey Bob Johnson Award’ for outstanding performance in international play. At the 2015 “World U18 Championship,” it was determined that he was the “Most Valuable Player,” and he was awarded the “MVP” title. As the tournament’s leading scorer, he was also awarded the title of “Best Forward” by the IIHF. He was chosen to be a ‘Media All-Star Team member.’ He was also included on the roster for 2015. However, he could not participate in the game because of a back issue.

At the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship held in Helsinki, he was selected to represent the United States and helped his team earn bronze. Later in the same year, he was chosen to play for the United States national men’s team in the ‘2016 IIHF World Championship.’ Additionally, he participated in the “2016 World Cup of Hockey” as a member of “Team North America.” However, the squad did not come away with any medals. Matthews was ineligible to participate in the ‘2015 NHL Entry Draft’ by two days.

Therefore, he decided to play professionally rather than continue playing for the ‘U18 squad. In August 2015, he put pen to paper on a deal to play for the ‘ZSC Lions’ in the ‘Swiss NLA.’ In September 2015, he debuted in the NLA against the HC Fribourg-Gottéron.
