Bobby Bones (born Bobby Estell) is an American radio and television personality best known for co-hosting the nationally syndicated The Bobby Bones Show on KISS-FM in Austin, Texas, and for serving as a full-time mentor on ABC’s American Idol.Bobby Bones was one of the most prominent broadcasters in country music in the 2010s, occupying a position between a typical DJ and the host of a freewheeling morning zoo. His syndicated show The Bobby Bones Show aired in the majority of major country markets around the United States, and he also released CDs with his band the Raging Idiots.
Bobby Bones was born Bobby Estell in Hot Springs, Arkansas on April 2, 1980. He grew up in a tiny town in Arkansas. He grew up in a trailer park and aspired to be a DJ, which he pursued after attending Henderson State University. While earning a Bachelor’s degree in radio and television at the institution, he worked at the college’s radio station. Simultaneously, he worked at KLAZ 105.9 in Hot Springs, initially as a station hand and then as Bobby Bones. Following that was a stint at Little Rock’s Q100/KQAR, followed by a stint at ALICE 107.7, but his career-defining station was 96.7 KISS FM in Austin, Texas – a series of shifts that occurred throughout 2002.

In Austin, he launched The Bobby Bones Show, which featured Amy and Lunchbox as on-air personalities. The Bobby Bones Show, which specialised in Top 40 music, quickly became Austin’s most popular morning show, and its popularity grew through selective distribution. He began branching out beyond radio after a few years, appearing in the 2009 Vanessa Hudgens film Bandslam and guest hosting on Live! With Regis and Kelly.
Clear Channel, the corporate company of KISS FM, determined that Bones’ potential should be maximised. He began presenting weekends on Fox Sports Radio, but a more significant transition occurred in the fall of 2012, when Clear Channel relocated Bones’ staff to Nashville in order to underline the show’s genre shift from Top 40 to country. The Bobby Bones Show entered national syndication with Clear Channel in 2013; by 2016, it was broadcast on 68 stations.
