Bret Hart Biography and Career:

Bret Sergeant Hart was born on the 2nd of July, 1957, in New York City. He is a former professional wrestler from Canada and the United States. He is a member of the Hart wrestling family and a second-generation wrestler. He competed in amateur wrestling at Ernest Manning High School and Mount Royal College before moving on to the professional ranks. His technical in-ring performance has been credited with transforming the perspective of mainstream North-American professional wrestling in the early 1990s when he became a significant international draw in the sport of professional wrestling.

When it comes to professional wrestlers, Hart is largely recognized as one of the all-time greats, according to Sky Sports, who described him as “one of if not the greatest to have ever graced the squared circle.” During the New Generation Era of professional wrestling, he was the face of the World Wrestling Federation. Hart went under the moniker “Hitman” for the majority of his professional wrestling career. Hart began working for his father Stu Hart’s business Stampede Wrestling in 1976 as a referee, and he made his professional wrestling debut the following year.

During the 1980s and 1990s, he achieved championship success in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE), where he was the manager of The Hart Foundation wrestling stable. Following the highly publicized “Montreal Screwjob” in November 1997, he moved on to World Championship Wrestling (WCW), where he lasted until October 2000. Following a concussion suffered in December 1999, Hart was forced to retire from the wrestling business in January 2000.

He formally announced his retirement in October 2000, just a few months after leaving the company. The WWE brought him back into the ring for irregular action from 2010 to 2011, where he won his final championship, headlined the 2010 SummerSlam event, and served as the general manager of Raw for a period of time. Throughout his career, Hart has headlined WrestleMania IX, X, and XII, as well as taking part in the main event at Starrcade 1997 and 1999 – serving as a special enforcer and referee in the former and as a special enforcer and referee in the latter.

During his active wrestling career, Hart was inducted into the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame in 1996, which was the first year the newsletter was in existence. Throughout his career, Hart has won championships in five different decades, including 32 in the WWF/WWE and 17 in the WCW. Hart has won championships in five different decades from the 1970s to the 2010s, with a total of 32 held throughout his career, including 17 in the WCW. He is a five-time World Wrestling Federation Champion and a two-time World Championship Wrestling World Heavyweight Champion, among other distinctions.

While competing as a WWF Champion in the 1990s, Hart racked up the most cumulative days (654) in the company’s history. He was also the first WCW World Heavyweight Champion to be born outside the United States. He is the second WWF Triple Crown Champion and the fifth (together with Goldberg) WCW Triple Crown Champion, as well as the first man to capture the WWF and WCW Triple Crown Championships in the same year. Hart is also the only two-time winner of the King of the Ring tournament, having won both the 1991 tournament and the first King of the Ring pay-per-view event in 1993.

He also won the Royal Rumble match in 1994 (along with Lex Luger) and is the only two-time winner of the Royal Rumble match (along with Lex Luger). It’s ice cold. Kevin Hart was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2006, which was presided over by Steve Austin, with whom Hart headlined many pay-per-view events as part of a renowned feud from 1996 to 1997. After being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as a member of The Hart Foundation with his brother-in-law Jim Neidhart in 2019, Hart became one of just seven people in history to be inducted into the Hall of Fame twice.

Beyond wrestling, Hart has acted in a number of films and television shows, including The Simpsons. He has also appeared as a subject or co-star in various documentaries, some focusing on him personally, some on his family, and still others on the wrestling profession as a whole. Hart also played a role in the founding and naming of the Calgary Hitmen, a major junior ice hockey team in the city of Calgary.

He has also written two biographies and a weekly column for the Calgary Sun for more than a decade. Having personally experienced both stroke recovery and cancer awareness, Hart has dedicated most of his time since retiring to humanitarian endeavors in the areas of stroke recovery and cancer awareness. Hart’s best-selling autobiography, Wrestling with the Devil, recounted his wrestling career and the Montreal Screwjob.
