Cheryl Ann Biography and Career:
Cheryl Fernandez-Versini was born Cheryl Ann Tweedy on June 30, 1983, to Joan Callaghan and Garry Tweedy in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. Her parents were together for more than ten years, but they never got married. She is the mother’s fourth child, having two older brothers, one older sister, and one younger brother.
When Cheryl’s parents were divorced, she learned about her mother’s first three children from a previous marriage. She displayed a talent for dance at a young age and started learning sequences at the age of four. When she was nine years old, she won a position in the Royal Ballet Summer School in London over 9000 other applications.
She made her first appearance on television at the age of seven when she and her younger brother were featured in a British Gas ad. In 1993, she performed dance pieces on the UK television show “Gimme 5”. In 2002, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini performed “Have You Ever” by the British pop group S Club 7 for the ITV reality show “Popstars: The Rivals.” She was one of the 20 finalists chosen out of the tens of thousands of applications to compete.
For the all-female band “Girls Aloud,” which also comprised Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts, and Kimberley Walsh, she was the first applicant chosen. The band’s debut album, “Sound of the Underground,” which came out in May 2003, included three tracks that reached the top of the UK Albums Chart.
The group’s debut tour, “What Will the Neighbors Say? Live,” started in May 2005, and their second album, “What Will the Neighbors Say?” was released on November 29, 2004. For that year’s official “Children in Need” charity song, the group recorded The Pretenders’ “I’ll Stand by You,” which spent two weeks at the top of the charts.
In addition to making cameos in the documentaries “Girls Aloud: Home Truths” and “Off the Record,” they released Chemistry, their third studio album, in 2005. The following year, they went on tour in Australia and New Zealand and made an appearance on the “Ghosthunting with” television show as guests.
In November 2007, Girls Aloud released “Tangled Up,” their fourth studio album. They made an appearance on “The Passions of Girls Aloud” in March 2008. In November of that year, the group’s fifth album, “Out of Control,” which also happened to be their final studio album, topped the charts.
Cheryl Fernandez-Versini was selected by “The X Factor” creator Simon Cowell to serve as a judge for the fifth season in 2008. Alexandra Burke, one of the female solo contestants she coached, won the championship that year. She returned to the programme in 2009 for the sixth season as a mentor and judge, winning judge for a second consecutive year.
She reprised her role in the show’s subsequent season, however this time she was unable to aid the competitors in winning. She initially appeared as a judge on “The X Factor” in America in 2011, but she left the programme after only three weeks. She was then given the chance to oversee the UK competition’s judging panel.
She declined the offer, and in December 2012, she sued the American producers of “The X Factor.” In November 2013, she was compensated. After making a guest appearance on “The X Factor” in the UK in 2012, she returned in 2014 as a judge and coach on the eleventh season of the programme.
She returned to the show the next season as a judge as well, however she ultimately decided to discontinue the run in April 2016. Cheryl Fernandez-Versini began her solo career in 2008 by adding additional vocals to the American rapper will.i.am’s song “Heartbreaker.” The following year, she made her “The X Factor” stage debut with her first single, “Fight For This Love,” and on October 26, 2009,
she released her debut album, “3 Words.” On October 29, 2010, she released her next album, “Messy Little Raindrops,” which featured guest vocals from August Rigo, Dizzee Rascal, Travie McCoy, and will.i.am. The album debuted at the top of the charts, and the first single, “Promise This,” gave her her second UK number-one hit.
Her third studio album, A Million Lights, debuted at number two on the UK chart in June 2012. Her fourth album, “Only Human,” was released in November 2014, although it only managed to reach position seven on the chart. While a member of “Girls Aloud,” she earned platinum status on five albums, two of which, “Sound of the Underground” and “Out of Control,” peaked at numbers two and one on the “UK Albums Chart.”
“3 Words” and “Messy Little Raindrops,” her first two solo albums, topped the charts and were certified platinum in the UK. Her debut album, which sold over a million copies, earned a 3 Platinum certification. Girls Aloud, the band featuring Cheryl Fernandez-girl Versini, was nominated for a “BRIT Award” five times; in 2009, their song “The Promise” helped them win one.
She has received various honours throughout her solo career and has received two “BRIT Awards” nominations. In September 2004, English football player Ashley Cole and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini began dating. They got hitched on July 15, 2006. After it was discovered that her husband had cheated on her with multiple different women, she and Cole filed for divorce in February 2010.
She later married Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini on July 7, 2014, following a brief three-month engagement. After divorcing her second husband, with whom she shares a child, Liam Payne of One Direction, she started seeing him. ‘OK!’ magazine consented to photograph Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Ashley Cole’s wedding in 2006.
The rights were reportedly sold for £1 million. She was diagnosed with malaria in 2010, after falling on the way home from a trip in Tanzania. She later raised money as a philanthropist to fight malaria. Cheryl conducted her maternal family research before making an appearance on the BBC One genealogy programme Who Do You Think You Are? in December 2016.
According to research, Cheryl’s paternal line originates from Tyneside, and several of her ancestors were coal miners. Further investigation reveals that she has several seamen in her lineage in one of her paternal line’s branches. Cheryl’s grandma, Olga Ridley, was one of twin daughters born to Edith Annie Burton, a housekeeper for a man named Joseph Ridley who was already the father of several children from his previous marriage, according to research into Cheryl’s maternal line. According to a census analysis, Joseph Ridley served as a Pioneer in the Durham Light Infantry during World War I and had previously worked as a warehouseman for groceries.
