Chuck Todd Biography and Career:

The 12th and current moderator of NBC’s Meet the Press is American television journalist Charles David Todd (born April 8, 1972). He is the Political Director for NBC News and broadcasts the daily episode of Meet the Press Now on NBC News Now.

Todd served as the chief White House correspondent for NBC and the host of The Daily Rundown on MSNBC prior to taking over Meet the Press. Additionally, he contributes as an on-air political analyst for NBC News on Today and NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt.

Todd, the son of Stephen Randolph Todd and Lois Cheri (née Bernstein), was born on April 8, 1972 in Miami, Florida. He was raised Jewish and is Jewish on his mother’s side. He received his diploma from Miami Killian Senior High School in Kendall, a Miami suburb without an official government.

From 1990 until 1994, Todd studied at George Washington University. He professed a minor in music and a political science major, but he never received a diploma. Todd gained real-world political experience working on Florida initiative campaigns and several national campaigns located in Washington, D.C., before entering the field of political reporting and analysis.


While still in college, Todd worked for Senator Tom Harkin’s (D-Iowa) 1992 presidential campaign. He later began working part-time at The Hotline at National Journal. Todd worked at National Journal’s The Hotline from 1992 to 2007; he served as editor-in-chief for six of those years.

As part of his job, Todd co-hosted the webcast series Hotline TV with John Mercurio. It had two shows per week, each lasting between 20 and 30 minutes and lasted between three and seven minutes per day. He started appearing frequently on political talk shows including Inside Politics with Judy Woodruff and Hardball with Chris Matthews.

In March 2007, Tim Russert recruited Todd from The Hotline to NBC. At that point, he started working as the political director for NBC News. In this capacity, Todd frequently offered political analysis on political talk shows such The Rachel Maddow Show, Hardball with Chris Matthews, Meet the Press, NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, and Morning Joe.

And “First Read,” a blog on MSNBC.com. Additionally, he participated in a weekly Q&A session with Newsvine users. Todd was a contender to succeed Tim Russert as the host of NBC’s Meet the Press after his passing in June 2008[9], but David Gregory was ultimately chosen for the position.

On December 18, 2008, NBC revealed that Todd will take Gregory’s place as the network’s chief White House correspondent. He would work on the news beat with Savannah Guthrie. He kept his position as political director for NBC News and was given the additional title of contributing editor for Meet the Press.

Todd was the subject of a Los Angeles Times piece from August 2008 that compared his ascent to the ascent of cable news networks in their coverage of American politics. The story mentioned Todd’s growing following of “Chuckolytes.”

PressThink, a project of the Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute at New York University, criticised Todd for neglecting to address the concerns as they emerged even though Todd had characterised “alternative facts” as lies in January 2017.

During his broadcast on February 11, 2020, Todd cited a conservative columnist who compared Bernie Sanders and his followers to Nazi Brownshirts. This caused Todd to draw criticism: “No other candidate has a digital brownshirt brigade of this calibre.

Except for Donald Trump, that is. What if you can’t win the president without an internet mob? is the issue no one is posing.” When the statements were made, the hashtag #FireChuckTodd began to trend on Twitter. Jewish Sanders suffered a great deal of family loss as a result of the Nazi Holocaust. Both MSNBC and the Sanders campaign chose not to respond to the event.

Todd teaches in a supplemental capacity at Johns Hopkins University. The Stranger: Barack Obama in the White House was written by him. The book, which was published in 2014, was praised for being “richly sourced and profoundly informed” by the Chicago Tribune and “an even-handed, succinct, and detailed analysis” by Publishers Weekly.

Along with Sheldon Gawiser, Todd is a co-author of the 2009 book How Barack Obama Won: A State-by-State Guide to the Historic 2008 Presidential Election. On his podcast, The Tony Kornheiser Show, Todd selects NFL football games for Tony Kornheiser.

Todd competes against Reginald, a chimpanzee that also predicts NFL games, every week. Todd, his wife Kristian Denny Todd, and their two kids all reside in Arlington, Virginia. She is an expert in communications and a co-founder of Maverick Strategies and Mail, a firm that offers direct mail and consulting services to Democratic candidates and liberal organisations.

She served as the spokesman for Senator Jim Webb’s effective 2006 U.S. Senate campaign. In celebration of Todd’s journalism career, Marymount University awarded him an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree. Todd attends services at Temple Rodef Shalom in Falls Church, Virginia, which is a Reform synagogue. Todd is a die-hard football fan of the Miami Hurricanes.
