Clinton LumberKings Biography and Career:

It is the Clinton LumberKings who compete in the Prospect League’s Eastern Division as a collegiate summer baseball team throughout the summer months. All of the team’s home games are played at NelsonCorp Field in Clinton, Iowa, which is owned by the city council of Clinton, Iowa. From 1956 until 2020, they were a part of the Midwest League of Minor League Baseball, which was based in Chicago. Clinton was not selected to continue his baseball career in the affiliated ranks as a result of Major League Baseball’s restructuring of the minor leagues following the 2020 season. In 1895, Clinton founded a baseball team that competed in different leagues for the next few decades.

Like the Great Depression, World War I, and World War II interrupted baseball clubs across the country, Clinton fielded sporadic teams in various leagues for the next few decades. Clinton, on the other hand, joined the Midwest League in 1956, making them the league’s founding member and the league’s oldest franchise. Several major league teams have been affiliated with the team, including the Brooklyn Dodgers (1937–38), New York Giants (1939–41), Chicago Cubs (1947–49), Pirates (1954–58 and 1966–68), White Sox (1959–65), Pilots/Brewers (1969–70), Tigers (1971–75), Tigers/White Sox co-op (1976), Giants (1980–94), Dodgers (1977–79), Giants (1980–94), It was reported in September 2018 that they had entered into a two-year player development arrangement with the Miami Marlins, which was effective immediately.

The team, save from its time as the C-Sox (1960–65) and the Pilots (1966–76), has always gone by the nickname of the parent major league team, until it chose the LumberKings moniker for the 1994 season when it became the LumberKings (pronounced “lumber”). In Lucas Mann’s 2013 book “Class A: Baseball in the Middle of Everywhere,” which is located in the middle of nowhere, the 2010 LumberKings season is the subject of a fictional baseball team. The Clinton LumberKings won 86 games in 2016 under the management of Mitch Canham, setting a new record for the most wins in a regular season by any team in the franchise’s illustrious history.

Later in the season, the club swept the Peoria Chiefs in the first round of the playoffs before defeating the Cedar Rapids Kernels in a nail-biting three-game series in the second round of the playoffs. A walk-off home run by Ricky Eusebio sealed a 1-0 victory for the Colorado Rockies in the third game of the Western Division finals in extra innings on Sunday. For their part, the LumberKings were defeated by the Great Lakes Loons in the Midwest League Championship, which was played over four games and ended in a tie.

Additionally, during game two of the Midwest League Championship, the LumberKings converted their ballpark overnight into a football field, setting a team record for the most wins in a single season. It was the first-ever “LumberBowl,” which took place between the LumberKings and Camanche High School Football and was broadcast live on ESPN.

On September 16, 2016, the Camanche hosted a football game against Williamsburg High School in Fort Worth, Texas. In the final game of the season, the Raiders of Williamsburg defeated the Indians 55-7 in a blowout. As part of Major League Baseball’s reorganization of the minor leagues, the LumberKings were dropped from the Midwest League and affiliated baseball after the 2020 season.

During the summer baseball season of 2021, they will compete in the Prospect Competition, which is a collegiate summer league. Ashford Field is a football stadium in the English town of Ashford. Previously, it was known as Alliant Energy Field and Riverview Stadium, among other names. It is the LumberKings’ home stadium, NelsonCorp Field, which is located in the city of Clinton, Iowa. A Works Progress Administration (WPA) project[8] began construction on the stadium in 1937, and it was named Riverview Stadium because of its location on the Mississippi River’s banks.

The stadium opened its doors for the first time in 1938. After it was renamed Alliant Energy Field in 2002 and rebuilt in 2005–2006, the stadium could accommodate a total of 4,000 spectators on a single level. Originally known as Ashford University Field, it was renamed NelsonCorp Field in 2011 and renamed again in 2019. The following are the measurements: LF – 330, CF – 401, and RF – 325 millimeters.
