David Warner Biography and Career:

The debut of David Warner, plucked from obscurity despite not having played a single First-Class match, was one of the most memorable in international cricket history. He scored an incredible 89 off 43 balls in a Twenty20 match against South Africa, which remains one of the most memorable debuts in the game’s history. The innings were made all the more extraordinary by the fact that it occurred immediately after Australia’s demoralizing home Test series defeat in 2008-09.

Following his success in the Twenty20 format, he made his One-Day International debut against the South Africans in Hobart. Warner’s uncommon skill seemed to be confirmed when he scored an aggressive 69 in just his second One-Day International. However, as the One-Day Internationals went, his form began to deteriorate, and he was eventually dropped before pushing his way back into the team. It was one of the few bright spots during Australia’s first-round loss from the 2009 World Twenty20 in England when he proceeded to shine in a shorter variant of the game known as Twenty20.

Warner was one of several candidates to fill a vacancy in the Australian Test team when a spot became available. Warner, who was already a regular in the One-Day International (ODI) lineup, made his Test debut against New Zealand during the summer of 2011 in Australia. After making a modest start at the Gabba, Warner came into his own with a career-defining century in Hobart, which cemented his place in the Australian cricket team.

He defied expectations and became just the 13th Australian opener to see through an innings with his bat in his hand. In Perth, he showed yet another side to his batting prowess, launching a listless Indian bowling attack to all areas of the WACA during a remarkable career-best inning of 180.

The aggressive touch that Warner has at the top of the order was on display once again in 2012, when he scored a brilliant 119 against a high-notch South African assault at the Adelaide Oval. Because of disciplinary issues, Warner was not selected to play in Australia’s second match in the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy match against New Zealand on June 12, 2013. Later, it was revealed that he had attempted to punch Joe Root.

The incident occurred only hours after the team’s defeat to England at Edgbaston on Saturday. On the 13th of June, 2013, the Board of Control for Cricket in England and Wales stated that Warner would be fined £7,000 (AU $11,500) and would be unable to represent his nation until the first Ashes Test on the 10th of July, 2013. As a result, Warner was unable to participate in the remainder of the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy as well as the tour matches against Somerset and Worcestershire.

A month later, on July 27, 2013, while playing for Australia ‘A’ against South Africa ‘A’ in Pretoria, Warner was engaged in an on-field confrontation with South Africa ‘A’ wicketkeeper, Thami Tsolekile. Warner was charged with assault and battery. This was judged significant enough for the umpires to intervene twice, however, no official complaints were lodged as a result of this. As a result of his 193-run performance in that match, he was finally pardoned and selected into the Australian team for the third Test against England. Things became funnier when he tried to “hook” one of them on Root and was caught on the boundary line himself.

The Ashes series in Australia, which he played in 2013-14, saw him hit runs at will and emerge as the series’ leading run-scorer. He scored 523 runs from five matches at an average of 58.11, including two hundred and two fifties, for an overall total of 523 runs. The Delhi Capitals did not retain him for the 2014 IPL season, and he was eventually acquired by Hyderabad in the auctions in February 2014 for a staggering Rs 5.5 crores, making him the most expensive player in IPL history.

Warner improved on his previous performance in The Ashes 2013-14 by once again being the leading run-scorer in the three-match Test series against the world’s top-ranked team, South Africa, during the 2013-14 season. A mind-blowing 543 runs from six innings at an average of 90.50, which featured three hundred, two of which came in the last Test, gave him a career-best total of 543 runs at 90.50. He was rightfully dubbed “Man of the Series” for his efforts.

Warner continued to perform well across all forms, including a superb century in the first Test of Australia’s tour of the United Arab Emirates in 2014. He got a fifty in the home One-Day International series against South Africa to keep his form going, and he hammered three hundred against India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2014-15 to do major damage to the visitors. In the 2015 World Cup, Warner was Australia’s second-leading run-scorer, behind only David Warner. He scored 345 runs in eight games, including a blistering 178 against Afghanistan, which enabled Australia to record 417 runs on the board, the greatest total in the history of the World Cup.
