Derek Ryan Biography and Career:

Derek Ryan, a County Carlow native who became one of Ireland’s most well-known country singer/songwriters in the 2010s, was a member of the boy band D-Side in the middle of the 2000s. Because of his five years with that group and his near-obsession with Bryan Adams’ music, he was able to give his solo career, which drew significantly from the traditional folk and country music he was nurtured on, both a pop and a radio rock sensibility. Ryan had landed six spots inside the Irish Top Ten by the release of his 12th studio album, Soft Ground, in 2021.

Ryan was given a toy drum set at the age of four. He was born and reared in the Irish community of Garryhill in the South-East. At the age of nine, he won an all-Ireland championship in bodhrán drumming in 1992. At the age of fifteen, he won the same championship in ceili drumming.
