DJ Cuppy Biography and Career:

DJ Cuppy, also known as Florence Ifeoluwa Otedola or simply Cuppy, is a Nigerian disc jockey and record producer who works in the music industry. A Nigerian businessman, Femi Otedola is the father of this young lady. She grew up in Lagos, Nigeria, and moved to London when she was 13 years old.

Originally from Ilupeju, Cuppy moved to Ikeja six years ago, where she attended Grange School, Ikeja, until she graduated. After that, she moved to London to complete her GCSEs and A-Levels. A bachelor’s degree in business and economics from King’s College London was awarded to her in July of that year.

In addition, she graduated with honors from New York University with a master’s degree in the music business in 2015. Cuppy will begin studying for a master’s degree in African Studies at the University of Oxford in October 2021, and he will graduate in December 2021.

Cuppy embarked on her first DJ tour, dubbed “Cuppy Takes Africa,” in August 2015, stopping in eight countries across Africa.

She traveled to Nigeria, Senegal, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, and South Africa, among other destinations. There were performances, major artist collaborations, and charitable engagements as part of the “Cuppy Takes Africa” tour, which was sponsored by GTB Bank and the Dangote Foundation. Later that year, she worked as an intern at Jay-Roc Z’s Nation record label.

In October 2016, an eight-episode documentary series about the “Cuppy Takes Africa” tour aired on Fox Life Africa in Africa. Cuppy served as the resident DJ for Charlamagne Tha God’s Uncommon Sense, which aired on MTV2 in 2016. The songs “Vibe” and “The way I am,” which she produced for Young Paris’s “Afrobeats” EP, which was released on March 24, 2017, were both included on the album.

Her first official single, “Green Light,” was released on October 13, 2017, marking her official debut. Tekno, a Nigerian singer and record producer, contributes vocals to the song as a guest. On March 30, 2018, she released “Vybe,” her second official single, which was also her first. A guest appearance by Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie is featured on the track. Currency, her third official single featuring L.A.X., was released on August 24, 2018, marking her third official single release.


Werk, her fourth single featuring Skuki, was released on October 5, 2018, marking her first release in over a year. Abena, her fifth single, was released on April 19th, 2019, and features Kwesi Arthur as the producer. Gelato, her sixth single featuring Zlatan, was released on August 16, 2019, and is her sixth single overall. Cuppy was selected to be a member of Forbes Magazine’s 30 under 30 class for the year 2020.

After a brief hiatus, she will return as the host of ‘Africa Now Radio’ on Apple Music Beats 1. On July 16, 2020, she released Jollof On The Jet, her seventh single, which featured Rema & Rayvanny and was released as a collaboration with them. Original Copy, her debut studio album, will be released on August 24, 2020. She will collaborate with Apple Music to launch the company’s first radio show in Africa in February 2021.

Cuppy was announced as one of the cast members for the Channel 4 reality television show High Life, which will focus on the careers of British West Africans. The show will premiere in September 2021. Cuppy has hosted the Sunday version of BBC Radio 1Xtra’s breakfast show since the beginning of 2022, with the Saturday version being hosted by Swarzy, formerly of Kiss Radio. They both took over for Remi Burgz, who went on to replace Yasmin Evans on 1Xtra’s weekday lunchtime show, which she hosted for a while.
