Mastriano, the Republican candidate for governor in Pennsylvania, took part in a Zoom meeting that was hosted by Jim Garlow, a former megachurch pastor who is associated with the New Apostolic Reformation, an extreme right-wing Christian movement.

Mastriano is running for the office of governor in Pennsylvania. According to Rolling Stone, Garlow is a Christian nationalist who thinks that the Bible should be used to guide the operations of the government of the United States. During the call titled “Global Prayer for Election Integrity,” Mastriano led a prayer over the outcomes of the 2020 election. In the prayer, he made a number of references to the Bible and historical events that tied Christianity and the United States together.

He remarked, “We remember 1776 when we declared our independence and spoke the truth and word of God over what would become the United States of America.” Mastriano also mentioned the Gettysburg Address that Abraham Lincoln gave in 1863 and the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, in which a “strong Christian man” confronted the hijackers and said, “let’s roll.” This was an apparent reference to Todd Beamer, who was on United Airlines flight 93 that crashed in Pennsylvania. Mastriano also mentioned the Gettysburg Address.

“I hope that we will accept the responsibilities that have been placed on our shoulders and that we will use the authority that has been bestowed upon us by both the Constitution and by You, providentially. I hope that the leaders in the federal government, as well as those in state and local governments, will have the courage to speak out on January 6th “he stated. Mastriano also prayed that God would bless letters “outlining the fraud in Pennsylvania” that he was sent to Sen. Mitch McConnell and Rep. Kevin McCarthy at Trump’s request, and that the letters would encourage them to “stand firm and disregard what has happened in Pennsylvania until we have an investigation.” Trump had asked Mastriano to send the letters.
