Glenn Close Biography and Career:
Glenn Close (born March 19, 1947, Greenwich, Connecticut, United States) is an American actress who has garnered critical praise for her wide range and versatility in film and television. Close grew up in Greenwich, Connecticut, a community that her ancestors were instrumental in establishing. After leaving the mansions and well-manicured lawns of Greenwich to build a medical clinic in the Belgian Congo (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo) when Close was 13 years old, her father became a well-known surgeon in his own right.
Prior to coming to Connecticut to live with her grandmother and attend Rosemary Hall, a prestigious girls’ school in Greenwich, she spent several years traveling in Africa and attending boarding schools in Switzerland. Closs spent the next several years touring Europe and the United States with a musical group called Up with People, after graduating from high school in 1965. In 1970, Close enrolled in the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, to pursue a degree in English literature.
She joined the New Phoenix Repertory Company in 1974 after earning a bachelor’s degree in drama and a Phi Beta Kappa key from the University of Michigan. The following year, she made her Broadway debut with the company. Close’s popularity increased as a result of a string of other theatre roles that followed.. Close will appear in Hillbilly Elegy, an adaptation of the best-selling memoir by J.D. Vance, whose ancestors were from Appalachia, which will be released in 2020. The following year, she was cast as a doctor in the science fiction film Swan Song, in which a dying man (Mahershala Ali), who has kept his condition a secret from his loved ones, considers cloning himself to save his life.
