Harvey Keitel Biography and Career:

Harvey Keitel is a well-known actor and producer from the United States. On May 13, 1939, he was born. He has been nominated for both the Academy Award and the Golden Globe Award, and his filmography includes roles in Martin Scorsese’s Mean Streets and The Last Temptation of Christ. He is one of the co-presidents of the Actors Studio, along with Al Pacino and Ellen Burstyn, who are also actors. Miriam (née Klein) and Harry Keitel, both Jewish immigrants from Romania and Poland, had a son named Keitel.

Keitel was born in the New York City neighborhood of Brooklyn. His mother and father ran a lunch counter together, and his father also made hats as a side business. During his childhood, he lived with his sister Renee and brother Jerry in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Brighton Beach. He went to Abraham Lincoln High School for his secondary education. When he was sixteen, he joined the United States Marine Corps. During Operation Blue Bat, he was stationed in Lebanon. After moving back to the United States, he worked as a court reporter for a number of years before he became an actor. This gave him the means to take care of himself at the time.

Keitel went to the HB Studio, where he trained with Stella Adler and Lee Strasberg. As a result of his training, he got parts in a number of off-Broadway shows. During this time, Keitel went to an audition for director Martin Scorsese and was offered the lead role of “J.R.” in Who’s That Knocking at My Door, Scorsese’s first feature film. Keitel played the part all the way through the movie.

Scorsese and Keitel have worked together on a number of projects in the years since then. Mean Streets, which was directed by Martin Scorsese and starred Harvey Keitel, was also the movie that made Robert De Niro one of the most famous actors in Hollywood. Keitel and Scorsese worked together again on the 1974 movie Alice Don’t Live Here Anymore, in which he had a small role as a bad guy.

He worked with Robert De Niro again in Scorsese’s 1976 movie Taxi Driver, where he played Jodie Foster’s pimp. Harvey Keitel was in the first movies that Paul Schrader, Ridley Scott, and James Toback directed in 1978. Richard Pryor and Yaphet Kotto were both in Schrader’s movie Blue Collar. Keith Carradine also had a part in Scott’s movie The Duellists. Fingers, Toback’s movie in which Keitel played a street thug who wanted to be a pianist, was written for Robert De Niro. Keitel, who played Captain Willard in Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now, was there for the first week of primary filming in the Philippines.

Coppola wasn’t happy with how Keitel played Willard. When asked about it, she said that the actor “found it impossible to play him as a passive bystander.” After looking at how the first week of filming went, director Francis Ford Coppola decided to replace Harvey Keitel with casting session favorite Martin Sheen.

Most of the 1980s were spent with Keitel getting more and more forgotten. He kept working in theatre and movies, but most of the time he was cast as a violent criminal, which is a role that is often seen in movies. Before he worked with Robert De Niro and Meryl Streep in the romantic drama Falling in Love and Danny DeVito and Joe Piscopo in the mobster comedy Wise Guys, Harvey Keitel played a crooked police officer in the 1983 thriller Copkiller (co-starring British rock musician John Lydon).

Keitel is well known for his role as Judas in Martin Scorsese’s controversial 1988 movie The Last Temptation of Christ. In the follow-up to Chinatown, The Two Jakes, which came out in 1990 and was directed by Jack Nicholson, Keitel, and Nicholson worked together again. In Thelma & Louise, which came out in 1991, Ridley Scott chose Keitel to play the kind policeman.

The next year, Keitel got a part in Barry Levinson’s movie Bugsy, for which he was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Supporting Actor category. Keitel was nominated for awards for both of these roles. He played another gangster in the comedy Sister Act, which starred Whoopi Goldberg and came out the next year. In 1992, Keitel was in the movie Reservoir Dogs, which Quentin Tarantino directed and helped to make.

Since then, Keitel has been picky about the jobs he takes in order to change his reputation and show that he has a wider range as an actor. One of those parts was playing the title character in the movie Bad Officer, which was about a drug-addicted police lieutenant who was trying to get better. In 1993, he was a co-star in the movie The Piano.

In 1994, he played an efficient cleaner named Winston “The Wolf” Wolfe in Quentin Tarantino’s movie Pulp Fiction. Clockers is based on a book by Richard Price. Spike Lee directed it, and Martin Scorsese helped make it. In the movie, Keitel played a police investigator. Harvey Keitel played a key role in the crime thriller From Dusk Till Dawn, which was made by Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez and came out in 1996. The next year, in 1997, he was in the movie Cop Land, which also starred Sylvester Stallone, Ray Liotta, and Robert De Niro.

In the movie “Little Nicky,” he played a fatherly Satan. In “U-571,” he played a knowledgeable Navy officer. In “National Treasure” and its sequel, “National Treasure: Book of Secrets,” he played a dedicated FBI Special Agent named Sadusky. In 1999, Sydney Pollack replaced Harvey Keitel on the set of Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut because of scheduling problems.
