Jeff Goldblum Biography and Career:

Jeff Goldblum is a well-known American actor who has appeared in film, TV, and theatre. He started acting at New York’s ‘Sanford Meisner’ studio. His first cinematic role was as the rapist “Freak #1” in the film “Death Wish.” Around the same time, he started appearing in television shows and movies. His first television appearance was in an episode of “Columbo,” when he played the character of “Protector.” He had previously appeared in various supporting roles, but his performance in “The Big Chill” earned him widespread acclaim.

After that, he got offers for leading parts in movies like “Into the Night” and “Silverado.” Successes like “The Fly,” “Jurassic Park,” “Nine Months,” “Independence Day,” “The Lost World: Jurassic Park,” and “Morning Glory” followed, and he continued to rise in the film industry. His little live-action picture, “Little Surprises,” was nominated for an “Academy Award.” He kept acting in TV shows alongside his film career. The role of Scott Wooley on the sitcom Will & Grace earned him a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series.

On October 22, 1952, Jeffrey Lynn Goldblum, one of four children born to Jewish parents Harold L. Goldblum and Shirley, entered the world in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. Pittsburgh’s “Taylor Allderdice High School” was his alma mater.

His first film for the small screen was 1989’s “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” (released in 1980). He also played in the same year’s “Tenspeed and Brown Shoe” as “Lionel Whitney.” In the 1980s, he began to find success in the film industry. In 1983, he played Michael Gold in the critically acclaimed film The Big Chill. His next big role was in 1984’s “The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension,” a film that has since become a cult classic. In 1985, he was cast as the main character in two movies.

In the 1986 picture The Fly, he played the lead role of Seth Brundle. In addition to the New York Film Critics Circle Award, he was nominated for the National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Actor. He starred in critically acclaimed films, including 1988’s Vibes and 1989’s The Tall Man. He appeared in many major box office hits of the ’90s.

In Steven Spielberg’s science fiction thriller Jurassic Park (1993), he portrayed Dr. Ian Malcolm. His character, Malcolm, returned in the 1997 sequel The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Meanwhile, he had a role in the 1996 film “Independence Day” as the character “David Levinson.” In the 1980s, he co-founded the acting school Playhouse West in North Hollywood, Los Angeles, where he stayed on staff until retirement.

Little Surprises was a 1996 short film he made that starred several students. In the “Best Live Action Short Film” category, the picture was up for an “Academy Award.” His minor parts in films like “Igby Goes Down” (2002) and “The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou” (2005) earned him accolades from critics (2004). For the latter, the Boston Society of Film Critics nominated them for a “Broadcast Cinema Critics Association Award” for “Best Cast.”

During the 2000s, he guest-starred on a wide variety of shows, including “Crank Yankers” (2003–2005), “Raines” (2007), and “Tim and Eric Fantastic Show and Excellent Work!” (2007). He was nominated for a Primetime Emmy in 2005 for “Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series” for his performance on “Will & Grace.” He played the role of Senior Detective Zach Nichols in the tv show Law & Order: Criminal Intent for two seasons, from 2009 to 2010.

New York-based theatre group The Fire Department, of which he is a co-founder, was named after him. Pittsburg, a film he created and starred in as himself, premiered in 2006. Perfume (2001), Adam Resurrected (2009), The Switch (2010), and Le Weekend (2013) are just a few of his other films from the 2000s.

He featured as Jerry Barnes in the 2010 comedy picture Morning Glory with Diane Keaton and the late Harrison Ford. He returned to the character of David Levinson in the 2016 sequel to Roland Emmerich’s epic science fiction catastrophe thriller Independence Day. In the 2017 Marvel superhero picture “Thor: Ragnarok,” Goldblum plays the role of “The Grandmaster.”

He is a talented jazz pianist who is taken the stage by himself. With the jazz group “The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra,” he has shared the stage with actor Peter Weller. He also has a strong reputation in the theatrical world. El Grande de Coca Cola, one of his first theatrical works, The Moony Shapiro Songbook, The Pillowman, and Seminar, are just a few of his Broadway hits. On Broadway, he appeared in “The Prisoner of Second Avenue,” and at the “Pittsburg Civic Light Opera,” he was “The Music Man.”
