In 1972, he got his high school diploma.

When he first started working on stage, he was Patrick Barlow’s assistant in a satirical show at the National Theatre of Brent. In 2001, he won both the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the movie Iris and the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his role in the movie Moulin Rouge! In 2006, he won the British Academy Television Award for Best Actor and the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Miniseries or Television Film for his role as Lord Longford in the Channel 4 drama series Longford.

He played Professor Horace Slughorn in the Harry Potter movies and books. In 2017, Broadbent played the role of Archmaester Ebrose on the HBO show Game of Thrones. Broadbent was the second son of sculptor Doreen “Dee” Broadbent (née Findlay) and artist, sculptor, interior designer, and furniture maker Roy Laverick Broadbent.

Broadbent was born in the county of Lincolnshire, in a place called Holton cum Beckering. Both of Broadbent’s parents were amateur performers who helped start the Holton Players, a group that put on shows in the town of Holton. The BBC called the two people “conscientious objectors” who “worked the land” instead of fighting in World War II.

In 1970, the Holton Players bought an old Methodist Chapel in Wickenby and turned it into a 100-seat theatre. In honor of Roy Broadbent, who was in charge of designing the change, they called it the Broadbent Theatre. Jim Broadbent had a twin sister who died very soon after she was born. Broadbent went to Leighton Park Institution in Reading, which is a Quaker school where he got his education. After that, he spent a short time at an art college before transferring to the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. In 1972, he got his high school diploma.

Early in his career, Broadbent did a number of shows at The National Theatre of Brent. In these parts, he played the miserable assistant Wallace to Patrick Barlow’s self-important actor and manager Desmond Olivier Dingle. Both Broadbent and Barlow have played both male and female characters in comedic and dramatic versions of historical and religious events, such as in “The Greatest Story Ever Told,” “Revolution,” and “All The World’s A Globe.” People liked these shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, in London, and when they were on tour.

Mike Leigh’s later stage work includes the first performances of Kafka’s Dick and Our Country’s Good (1988) at the Royal Court Theatre, as well as work for the Royal National Theatre, such as “The Government Inspector.” When working on stage with Mike Leigh, you can expect to feel both goosebumps and ecstasy. Before making a name for himself in Mike Leigh’s “Life Is Sweet,” he worked with Stephen Frears on “The Hit” in 1984 and Terry Gilliam on “Time Bandits” in 1981 and “Brazil” in 1985. After proving himself as a good character actor in movies like Enchanted April, Bullets over Broadway, The Borrowers (1997), and Little Voice, he played the playwright Sir William S. Gilbert in Topsy-Turvy, which was also directed by Mike Leigh.

In the Doctor Who spoof comedy Doctor Who and the Curse of Fatal Death, which was put on for Comic Relief in 1999, he played “The Shy Doctor.” In 2001, Jim Broadbent was in three of the most popular movies of the year: Bridget Jones’s Diary, and Moulin Rouge! , and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone., for which he was awarded a BAFTA, and Iris, for which he was awarded an Academy Award for his depiction of John Bayley. All three of these movies came out in the year 2001. In the film Robots from 2005, Broadbent provided the voice of Madame Gasket.

In the immensely successful comedy Only Fools and Horses, Broadbent also played the role of DCI Roy Slater, an associate character in the show. In all, the character was in three episodes over the course of eight years. He already had other things to do, so he turned down the chance to play the main role of Del Boy in the series that was being made.

He has also been in episodes of the series Inspector Morse. Other comedic roles include playing the main character in the comedy The Peter Principle and making occasional guest appearances on shows like Not the Nine O’Clock News, Only Fools & Horses, and Victoria Wood As Seen on TV. In the first season of “The Black Adder,” which aired in 1983, he played Don Speekingleesh in the episode The Queen of Spain’s Beard.

In the episode “Blackadder’s Christmas Carol,” which first aired in 1988, he played Prince Albert. In Rowan Atkinson’s Spider-Man parody, Spider-Plant Man, he played a resentful Batman who was jealous of Spider-Plant Man’s popularity. Broadbent played the main character in the television movie Wide-Eyed and Legless.

The drama is based on a true story about Deric Longden’s wife, Diana, and how she fought a mysterious illness that made her lose weight. Myalgic encephalomyelitis was later found to be the cause (ME). It started out as a mild form of flu, but it got much worse very quickly.
