Joel Embiid Biography and Career:

Joel Embiid has participated in two different All-Star games during his career. Before getting selected by the NBA in the 2014 Draft, he played college basketball for the Kansas Jayhawks for one year. During that time, he was eligible to be picked. He is the highest-paid player to be picked from his home nation of Cameroon and the third player to be chosen for the team.

While playing for the Kansas Jayhawks, he was considered among the top 30 candidates for the Naismith College Player of the Year award. Because of his foot and knee injuries, he did not start playing for the 76ers until relatively late in the season. Even though he had only participated in 31 of his team’s games during his first season in the NBA, he was selected to be a member of the First Team All-Rookie for the NBA.

The term “The Process” has been given to Embiid. While he was selected to play for Cameroon in the preliminary squad to participate in the 2017 FIBA AfroBasket in the Republic of Congo, he did not play in the tournament.

He was born on March 16, 1994, in Yaoundé, Cameroon. His father, Thomas Embiid, was a military officer, and his mother, Christine Embiid, was the officer’s wife. His father was an athlete as well and enjoyed the sport of handball. Luc Mbah Moute, a native of Cameroon who now plays in the NBA, was the one who saw Joel Embiid when he was attending a basketball camp in Cameroon. At 16, Embiid traveled to the United States, bringing Moute as his coach.

Since he was not getting enough playing time at Montverde Academy, he decided to move to The Rock School in Gainesville, Florida. Montverde Academy was one of Luc Mbah, a Moute’s educational stops during his formative years.

Joel Embiid went to school at the University of Kansas, where he was a member of the basketball team known as the Kansas Jayhawks for the 2013–14 season. Throughout the season, he participated in 28 games, averaging 11.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.6 blocks, and 1.4 assists. In addition to being selected for the second team of All-Big 12, he was awarded the title of Defensive Player of the Year for the Big 12 Conference. Nevertheless, he could not participate in the Big 12 tournament or the NCAA Tournament due to an injury.

On April 9, 2014, Joel Embiid submitted his entry for consideration in the NBA Draft. Six days after he declared his intention to play for the NBA, the Philadelphia 76ers picked him as the third overall choice.
On August 26, 2014, he became a member of the 76ers by signing a rookie contract. Because of an injury, he was sidelined for the 2014–2015 campaign.

He was also unable to participate in the 2015–2016 season because his recovery process did not live up to expectations, and he needed another surgery. In the preseason opening game, which took place on October 4, 2016, against the Boston Celtics, Embiid made his debut with the Philadelphia 76ers. The game’s final score was 92–89, and it was won by his side thanks to his six points, four rebounds, and two blocks.

On October 26, 2016, he made his first appearance with the 76ers in a game during the regular season of the NBA. Embiid had two blocks, seven rebounds, and 20 points, even though a 103–97 defeat his team.
On February 11, 2017, the Philadelphia 76ers announced that Embiid had sustained an injury to his left knee. On the other hand, the team reported that surgery would not be necessary. It was later discovered that the earlier injury had been serious and that he could not participate in the remainder of the 2016–2017 season.

On October 10, 2017, Joel Embiid extended his contract with the 76ers by signing a five-year deal worth a maximum of $148 million at the rookie scale. This occurred during the following season. According to the terms of his contract, he would be entitled to an extra $30 million in earnings if he was selected for the All-NBA first, second, or third teams or won the MVP award during the 2017–18 NBA season.

On April 19, 2018, he first appeared in the playoffs against the Miami Heat. Embiid finished the game with 23 points to lead the Philadelphia 76ers to a 128–108 victory against the Miami Heat. Because of an injury to his left eye, he had to sit out the first two rounds of the playoffs.

During the 2018–19 season, he became the first player for the franchise to reach these figures since Charles Barkley’s score against the Milwaukee Bucks in November 1991. He did this against the Milwaukee Bucks during the season above. Nonetheless, the Philadelphia 76ers were unsuccessful and lost the game 123–108.

He is one of seven players in NBA history to have accumulated 2,000 points, 200 blocks, and 1,000 rebounds in their first 100 games. Several players, including Shaquille O’Neal, David Robinson, and Ralph Sampson, have accomplished this. He is the only other player from the Philadelphia 76ers to have multiple triple-doubles in a single season, and the only player to do it other than Wilt Chamberlain.

In February 2017, the FIBA AfroBasket will occur in the Republic of the Congo, and Joel Embiid has been nominated to the preliminary squad that will compete there. Yet, he did not participate in the competition at all.

On January 25, 2017, Joel Embiid was honored by being selected to represent the World Team in the 2017 Rising Stars Challenge. In 2018 and 2019, he was selected to the All-NBA Second Team two years in a row. Also, he was selected to the All-Defensive Second Team during the same three years. Also, he was named to the All-Rookie First Team in 2017.

As a result of his selection as a starter for the 2018 NBA All-Star Game, he became the first player from Philadelphia to do so since the 2009–2010 season, when Allen Iverson was selected as a starter for the game.
