Josh Clark Biography and Career:

Since his third-grade teacher complimented him on a short tale he had written, Josh Clark has had the ambition to pursue a career in writing professionally. Since then, he has been writing. He has worked as a senior writer for HowStuffWorks in the past, and he is now a co-host for the podcast Stuff You Should Know. Josh and Umi, his wife, have a home together. The couple has tremendous pleasure in seeing new places, figuring out puzzles, hosting pizza parties, and going to museums, both well-known and less well-known.

Josh has visited the real-life mansion that appeared on the television show “Magnum P.I.” as the Robin’s Nest, and as a result, he has decided to take an extended break from being a jerk. Josh Clark is the one individual who can lay claim to being responsible for the overall production level attributed to the whole city of Saratoga Springs.

Even if you aren’t familiar with him by name, you most likely remember the following examples of his work: Uncommon Grounds is located in the heart of Saratoga’s town center, and the friendly musician who tends the bar there is responsible for operating the enormous Probat coffee roaster for around 30 hours each week. Put another way; he’s responsible for supplying Saratogians with caffeine.

Born and raised in Greenfield, Clark started working at Uncommon Grounds on Broadway as a barista in about 2012 when he first started frequenting the coffee shop. Because of the work’s environment offered, he was interested in applying for it. “I like being surrounded by fellow musicians, artists, and struggling writers,” he adds. “It inspires me to keep writing.” “In most fields, you are likely the only one doing what you do. Consequently, I enjoyed doing this for a living.”

He was sometimes promoted to head roaster when his predecessor departed the company. He is currently in charge of managing, operating, and running the coffee-roasting operations across Uncommon’s four locations in the Capital Region. Although Clark continues to write and make music in his spare time, roasting coffee requires quite a bit of left-brain power to heat the beans, which arrive at Uncommon as pale, rock-hard seeds from the highlands of countries around the world, to the correct temperature at the right time.

Because Clark is observing the pace at which temperatures shift over time, a friend of his recently remarked that the calculations that Clark does daily are, in fact, derivative calculus. “Is that what I’m supposed to be doing?!” Clark, who has never even taken a pre-calculus class, replied with utter amazement at the statement. And despite the fact that he takes pleasure in his work’s reflective and analytical aspects.

Coffee drinkers often approach Clark and ask him questions about what he’s doing, indicating that Clark is obviously at ease in a profession that requires him to interact directly with customers. “I’m glad to share,” he adds. This is the reason why the roaster is located in the public square if you will. It’s wonderful. An up-and-coming group of (very) literate geeks can be found among web developers. These web developers have taken it upon themselves to express the issues of displaying networked material as they occur and the answers to these challenges.

For now, I’d say that Clark is now in first place on the scoreboard in terms of tying together all of the diverse strands into one consistent package. This spring, he has been giving his “Seven Deadly Mobile Myths” presentation at several conferences. A couple of weeks ago, when I was in Orlando for the Breaking Development Conference, I could see the speaker’s presentation.

Even though I wasn’t physically present at the conference, I was keeping up with all of the #bdconf tweets in real-time. Out of all the fascinating talks presented, his was the one that particularly stood out to me. The previous week, Clark had issued a blistering reply to the recently published standards for a mobile user experience developed by the usability expert Jakob Nielsen. This brought Clark to my attention.

Clark calls out Nielsen for propagating “several stubborn mobile myths that have led too many to create ‘lite’ mobile experiences that patronize users, undermine business goals, and soak up design and tech resources.” In his article “Nielsen is wrong about mobile,” Clark calls out Nielsen for perpetuating “several stubborn mobile myths.” Nielsen’s response to the attack exhibited the coolness of a seasoned business professional. In an upcoming interview, we will also discuss the situation with Clark.

Clark is a mobile developer whose profession spans several sub-specialties. At the same time, Nielsen is a committed user experience consultant who can wash his hands of a lot of the nitty gritty as matters of execution. This difference in viewpoint may be the foundation of the controversy due to the disagreement. The outburst highlighted a generational divide among coders if nothing else.

Although it may sound strange, many mobile developers (including Jay Lee of ESPN, whom I interviewed for these pages) now refer to websites optimized for desktop computers as “traditional.” It may not be easy to efficiently develop responsive solutions for a wide variety of devices using a single web address, but this is the direction things are going in the future. And this debunking of the desktop paradigm is at the core of Clark’s notion of “one web,” which he discusses in Seven Deadly Mobile Myths that he wrote.
