Kat Von D Biography and Career:

Rene Drachenberg and Sylvia Galeano, both originally from Argentina, welcomed their daughter Katherine Von Drachenberg into the world on March 8, 1982, in Montemorelos, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.
Her mother is of Italian and Spanish origin, while her father is of German descent. However, she has German ancestry. Her brother Michael von Drachenberg and her sister Karoline von Drachenberg are her closest family members, and they all have a strong affinity with one another.

When she was four years old, she and her family moved to Colton, California, from Mexico. They had originally resided in Los Angeles. When she was six years old, she began her formal study of classical piano, and it was around this time that she developed a fondness for the works of Ludwig van Beethoven. She came to discover her creative interests with the support of her grandmother, who had a passion for music and art, as well as the Latin culture and punk rock scene that was prevalent in Los Angeles at the time.

These influences were eventually represented in her tattoo techniques and styles. At the early age of 12, she spent most of her time listening to Misfits and Ramones because she was so impacted by punk rock bands to the degree that she spent most of her time listening to them. Her first tattoo was an ancient English letter ‘J’ that was placed on her ankle when she was just 14 years old.

Her creative talent was quickly shown when she took up a tattoo machine and produced a skull design based on the band Misfits on the arm of her buddy. After deciding to pursue a career as a tattoo artist at the age of 16, she left school and began working in 1998 at a local professional shop called Sin City Tattoo. She spent the following several years working at a variety of tattoo parlors, such as Blue Bird Tattoo and Inflictions, honing her skills and accumulating expertise in the process.

She found employment at True Tattoo, where she was mentored by Tim Hendricks, Clay Decker, and Chris Garver, all of whom encouraged her to apply for a position at ‘Miami Ink.’ In 2005, she was given the job of filling in for an injured Darren Brass at the Miami tattoo shop 305 Ink. She was a cast member on the reality television show ‘Miami Ink,’ which aired on the TLC network for two seasons until she was fired due to disagreements with the show’s owner, Ami James.

She relocated back to Los Angeles and created her own tattoo parlor in Hollywood, California, called High Voltage Tattoo, in the year 2007. Because of this, she was able to launch her own reality series on TLC called “LA Ink,” which highlights the tattooing experiences of a variety of clientele. She published her first book, titled “High Voltage Tattoo,” in January of 2009. The book had a collection of tattoos and artwork, and it featured a preface written by Nikki Sixx of the band Motley Crüe.

The book is now positioned at number six on the New York Times Best Sellers list. Her second book, titled “The Tattoo Chronicles,” was released in October of 2010, and it quickly rose to the third spot on The New York Times best-seller list for “Hardcover Advice & Misc.” She stated that it was her choice to not continue the program any further, however, ‘LA Ink’ remained on the air for four seasons until it was canceled in 2011.

She cited the cancellation of the contract by TLC as the reason for the show’s closure. In 2008, she is credited with conceptualizing and launching the MusInk Tattoo Convention and Music Festival, which took place in Southern California. In 2008, she established her own cosmetics line, Kat Von D for Sephora. Shortly thereafter, in 2010, she opened an art gallery and boutique under the same name, Wonderland Gallery, which is located adjacent to High Voltage Tattoo.

She launched her eponymous clothing line, KVD Los Angeles, in the fall of 2011 in both the United States and Canada. Kat Von D Los Angeles is the name of the brand in both countries. She has appeared as a special guest on a number of different talk programs and television series, including “Pimp My Ride” (2004), “Bam’s Unholy Union” (2007), and “MADtv” (2008), and “I Love Jenni” (2013). She has appeared in many films, one of which is titled “Bam Margera Presents: Where the Fuck Is Santa?” (2008) and ‘The Bleeding’ both come to mind (2009).

She has the logos of a vast number of different bands, including ZZ Top, Mike Got Spiked, Misfits, AC/DC, HIM, Slayer, Guns N’ Roses, and Turbonegro, tattooed all over her body. Her roster of A-list clients includes, but is not limited to, Mira Sorvino, Sebastian Bach, Eric Balfour, Ryan Dunn, Jenna Jameson, Nicole Richie, Travis Barker, Green Day, and Ville Valo. She became well-known in 2005 after participating in two seasons of the reality television show “Miami Ink,” which airs on the TLC network.

During those seasons, she displayed her realistic tattoo pictures. However, she was fired as a result of her ongoing verbal conflicts with the owner of the business. Her reality television series, “LA Ink,” which debuted in 2007 and quickly rose to become one of the most popular shows on the TLC channel, handled a notable celebrity clientele, some of which included the actor Stephen Baldwin, the comedienne Margaret Cho, and the musician Dave Navarro.

She completed a total of four hundred tattoos in one day in 2007 while working on the show ‘LA Ink,’ which helped her break the record for the most tattoos completed in one day according to the Guinness World Records. However, in 2008, her then-husband Oliver Peck broke the record with 415 tattoos, making him the person with the most tattoos overall.
