He also served as Vice President of both organizations.

She went to Africa in order to give testimony before the United Nations Tribunal on Genocide in Rwanda, and she also assisted in the exhumation of a mass grave in Guatemala. As part of her job at the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (previously known as CILHI), she assisted in the identification of war dead from World War II, Korea, and Southeast Asian conflicts. These conflicts took place between 1939 and 1953.

Following the terrorist attacks of September 11, she was a member of a Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team (DMORT), which participated in the retrieval of remains at the World Trade Center. She traveled to Quantico on an annual basis for a time period so that she could assist FBI officers in learning how to identify and retrieve human remains. Dr. Reichs has taken her professional knowledge and turned it into a series of forensic suspense novels in addition to writing courses and essays for academic journals.

The success of Kathy’s debut book, Déjà Dead, which garnered her the 1997 Ellis Award for Best First Novel, propelled her to the forefront of literary acclaim and brought her instant notoriety. Other Temperance Brennan books written by this author include: Death du Jour, Deadly Décisions, Fatal Voyage, Grave Secrets, Bare Bones, Monday Mourning, Cross Bones, Break No Bones, Bones to Ashes, Devil Bones, 206 Bones, Spider Bones, Flash and Bones, Bones Are Forever, Bones of the Lost, Bones Never Lie, Speaking in Bones In addition to this, Kathy Reichs and her son Brendan Reichs are the authors of the Virals young adult series together.

The books Virals, Seizure, Code, Exposure, and Terminal, as well as the novella collection Trace Evidence, are the ones that have sold the most copies. Tory Brennan, who is Temperance Brennan’s great niece, is the protagonist of this book, which chronicles her exploits.

In addition to this, Kathy worked as a writer and producer on the Fox television series Bones, which is adapted from both her own work and the books that she has written. The Fox network has the longest-running scripted drama in the form of Bones, which has aired for a total of twelve seasons.

Reichs let herself around seven years to reflect on those events before making the decision to use her thoughts in fiction. In 1997, the novel Déjà Dead was published, and it introduced mystery readers to a new but, more often than not, recognized heroine. Temperance Brennan, a forensics specialist, was described as being in her forties and recuperating from alcoholism while evading an unstable marriage.

Brennan, who resembles a cross between Nancy Drew and Quincy, is also a bit of a hothead. She has a tendency to go off on her own when she gets into a conflict with a sexist male police officer. This is the type of lady who might join Vic Warshawski, Kay Scarpetta, or Jane Tennison for brunch, assuming any of those three characters participated in the activity.

Reichs draws significantly on her own experiences standing over the autopsy table in her role as a forensic anthropologist for the state of North Carolina and the province of Québec. Her works, such as Death du Jour, Deadly Decisions, Grave Secrets, and others like them, are filled to the brim with the type of well-informed clinical details that get reviewers’ attention. Regarding one of her works, The New York Times said, “The doctor definitely knows a hawk from a handsaw.”

When she was constructing Tempe Brennan, she also incorporated certain analogies from her own life into the character. Both of these ladies have an unusual dual address in North Carolina and Canada, and they work in the field of forensic anthropology. When questioned about the analogies, Reichs, on the other hand, rolls her eyes. Reichs said to USA Today in 1997 that when it comes to her personality, she is entirely unique. “She engages in the activity physically. She takes chances I’ve never been tempted to take.”

When Reichs first started flirting with the idea of creating a novel, she was working as an editor on forensics textbooks. According to her, the first attempt was a failure because it was uninteresting, drawn out, and written in the third person. But things started moving in the right direction when she created the Brennan character. She began writing after being motivated to do so by her friend Bill Maples, a medical examiner and the author of Dead Men Do Tell Tales. She began by carefully outlining the plot of her story and began getting up early in the morning to write before beginning her classes at the University of North Carolina. It took her two years to complete it.

The results of her labour were rewarded when her work was accepted for presentation at the Frankfurt Book Fair. A two-book contract for a million dollars was acquired by Reichs in a heated auction.

Tempe was a hit with readers and reviewers alike. “Despite her ability to work amid fetid, putrefying aromas that ‘jump out and grab’ and her ‘go-to-hell attitude’ with seasoned police, Tempe is as susceptible as a gentle Carolina morning,” said the Library Journal. Reichs, according to an article published in People magazine, “not only dishes up a wonderful storyline, but she also offers a fresh formula to hard-boiled detective jargon.”

During lunches of chicken salad with newspaper reporters, Reichs would casually discuss dismembered corpses, maggots, and her worries for the safety of her children in light of some of the less-than-savory people she had testified against. However, at that point, she will reveal what she considers to be the definition of a waking nightmare. According to what she shared with USA Today, her “concept of horror” would be to spend the whole day “sitting in a small drab cubicle and adding up columns of numbers.”
