Lincoln Riley Biography and Career:
Lincoln Riley (born Lincoln Michael Riley) is an American football coach and former player who hails from the state of Illinois. He now serves as the head coach of the University of Oklahoma Sooners.
He was born on September 5, 1983, in the city of Lubbock, in the state of Texas, United States. As of 2018, he has reached the age of 35.
Riley’s parents are Mike Riley and Marilyn Riley, and he is their son. His parents have lived in Muleshoe for many years, where his father has been the owner of a cotton warehouse. In addition to Riley, he has a younger brother called Garret who is also involved in the football industry.
Lincoln Riley has tied the knot with Caitlin Buckley. He was a track and field athlete at Muleshoe High School in Muleshoe, Texas, a small town in West Texas. Riley was a defensive end for the first two years of his high school career before switching to quarterback for his junior and senior seasons. He started as quarterback for Texas Tech University as a walk-on in 2002, behind senior starter and future Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury and backup B. J. Symons. He was a three-year starter at quarterback for the Red Raiders.
Riley began working as a student assistant to Mike Leach after a year, eventually rising to the position of graduate assistant and later receiving coordinator. Following his dismissal from Texas Tech following the firing of Leach, Riley moved on to work for Ruffin McNeill as the offensive coordinator at East Carolina University for five seasons after his departure.
As of January 12, 2015, Lincoln has been hired as the offensive coordinator for the Oklahoma Sooners, under the direction of Bob Stoops. The Sooners finished the season with the 7th best offense in the nation and advanced to the College Football Playoff under his direction in his first season at Oklahoma. Riley also received the Broyles Award, which is given to the best assistant coach in the country.
On June 7, 2017, Bob Stoops announced his retirement as head coach, and Riley was picked to take over as his replacement. In the 2017 season, Lincoln Riley guided his team to the Big 12 conference title, the #2 rating in the CFP rankings, and a spot in one of the CFP semifinal games at the Rose Bowl. Baker Mayfield was named the Heisman Trophy winner that season. Following that, Oklahoma was defeated by Georgia in the 2018 Rose Bowl in double overtime, 54–48.
Riley is paid a salary of $4.8 million per year as the head coach at Oklahoma. When he signed his contract extension with the team in June 2018, he secured a $1.7 million raise, which increased his annual salary to $4.8 million in the first year and a $100,000 increase every 12 months thereafter, bringing his annual compensation to an average of approximately $5 million per year.
“Yeah, it’s not the outcome that we anticipated or expected,” says the first speaker. For us, it was a bit of a story of two separate games. Give Alabama credit, they’re a tremendously excellent football team, and they came out strong to open the game. They made a beeline for us when we arrived early. It was only that we were having trouble breaking their winning streak.
But, despite the fact that we were down 28-0 at the time, I believed our side had a chance to win the football game until the very last play down there at the very end. We just sort of continued talking about how we’d been here before, and how we’d been here with far less time and yet managed to find a way to return. Since the beginning of the season, we’ve trailed in seven of the eight games we’ve played and have come back to win practically all of them.
Following that, we outscored them by 17 points for the remainder of the game. So we played much better — just much closer to what we felt we were capable of in the last three quarters — and unfortunately, we dug ourselves too deep into a hole, and we were just one play away from turning the game into a game that could go either way in the fourth quarter. I was disappointed in the way we started the game, but I was really impressed by our lads’ fight and their conviction.
