Lisa Bonet Biography and Career:

Lisa Michelle Bonet is a well-known name in both the film and television industries in the United States. As a young kid, she began her career in advertisements, which marked her entrance into the world of glitz and entertainment. After graduating with a degree in acting from the Celluloid Actor’s Studio in North Hollywood, she went on to appear in several movies and television shows throughout the years, the most notable of which being the NBC comedy The Cosby Show. Her performance as Denise Huxtable in the show garnered her acclaim and fame, which paved the way for her to play the character again in the comic spin-off of the series, titled A Different World.

In the role of Epiphany Proudfoot in the American neo-noir psychological horror film Angel Heart, which required her to perform daring scenes with Mickey Rourke, she demonstrated her versatility. This role was quite different from the role she played on The Cosby Show, in which she played a goody-goody character. After some time, she was let go from The Cosby Show because of “creative issues.” Other prominent television productions in which she appears include television movies and programs such as New Eden and Lathe of Heaven, as well as series such as Life on Mars and The Red Road.

The supporting part of Rachel Banks in Enemy of the State, which she played with Will Smith, and the character of Marie De Salle in High Fidelity are two of her most famous performances on the big screen. On November 16th, 1967 in San Francisco, California, United States, Lisa Bonet was born to her parents, Allen Bonet and Arlene (née Litman). Her African-American mother is of Ashkenazi Jewish descent, while her opera singer father is of African-American descent. Her mother was a teacher by trade.

Her parents divorced when she was a small child leaving her without a parent. She is the oldest of numerous younger children who are her half-siblings. She began her career in the entertainment industry as a child artist when she was 11 years old and began working in advertisements. During her childhood, she was a contestant in some beauty pageants and had guest appearances on several television shows. Her formal education began at Birmingham High School in Van Nuys, California. She continued it at the Celluloid Actor’s Studio in North Hollywood, where she received a degree in acting.

Her first acting role was as Carla, which she played in the seventh episode of the second season of the American medical drama black comedy television series St. Elsewhere, titled Entrapment and aired on December 7, 1983. Her other early acting roles included roles in movies and on television. Her big break came in 1984 when she was cast as Denise Huxtable on The Cosby Show, an American television comedy starring Bill Cosby. Denise was the free-spirited and defiant second child of Dr. Cliff and Clair Huxtable. Her parents were Dr. Cliff and Clair Huxtable.

The Cosby Program debuted on NBC on September 20, 1984, and continued airing on the network for a total of eight seasons until April 30, 1992, was a huge success and was ranked the number one show on television for each of its first five straight seasons. Bonet received great acclaim for her performance as Denise on The Cosby Show. She was a reoccurring cast member on the show from the pilot episode, which was titled Theo’s Economic Lesson, all the way through the twenty-fourth episode of the seventh season, which was titled Cliff and Jake, which aired on April 11, 1991. In total, she appeared in 98 episodes of the show throughout its run.

Because of her outstanding performance on The Cosby Show, she was nominated for both the Emmy Award and the Young Artist Award. She played the role of Justine in an episode of Tales from the Darkside called “The Satanic Piano,” and she played the role of Carrie in an episode of ABC Afterschool Special the same year (1985). Both of these roles were in American anthology television series.

She was successful on the small screen as Denise Huxtable, and she later ventured into the realm of big-screen flicks, starring as Epiphany Proudfoot in the American neo-noir psychological horror film Angel Heart, directed by Alan Parker and starring opposite Mickey Rourke and Robert De Niro. Alan Parker led angel Heart. The movie first went into theatres on March 6th, 1987. Denise shed her reputation of being morally upstanding during filming Angel Heart, which had her in sexually suggestive sequences with Rourke. It earned her a nomination for the Saturn Award in the category of Best Supporting Actress and the Young Artist Award for Best Young Female Superstar in Motion Pictures, which she received at the 9th Annual Youth in Film Awards.

After that, she appeared naked for several publications, including a topless center spread in Interview magazine. Her working relationship with Bill Cosby, her supervisor and co-star on The Cosby Show remained strained, particularly about her performance in Angel Heart, which is reportedly the driving factor for her departure from the series. Her brilliant performance as Denise Huxtable, as well as the character’s popularity, led to her reprising the role in the sitcom A Different World, which was a spin-off of The Cosby Show and made its debut on NBC on September 24, 1987. She also played a role in the television special The Earth Day Special, which was broadcast on ABC on April 22, 1990.

When the conclusion of the first season of A Different World, Bonet was let go from the show. However, after she got pregnant, she made a guest appearance on The Cosby Show for a short time. After taking some time off during her pregnancy, she appeared on The Cosby Show again in the seventh season. However, she was finally let off due to “creative disagreements” among the writing staff. In September of 1992, she was the presenter of the elections special show Why Bother Voting?

Her breakout performance was as the title character, Priscilla, in Nick Mead’s 1993 film Bank Robber, which he also wrote and directed. She played the role of Catherine Briggs in the crime-thriller film Final Combination, directed by Nigel Dicks and released in 1994. During the same year, she played the role of Lily in the television movie New Eden, also released that year. After that, she went on to portray the supporting part of Rachel Banks in the American conspiracy-thriller film Enemy of the State, which starred Will Smith and Gene Hackman. The movie, released on November 20, 1998, became a massive success at the box office.
