It was her contention that the first strike (in Sweden) had been unfair; the second strike, on 15 October 2015, had been the result of an administrative error in the off-season (she had filled in the form incorrectly, stating that she would be in Monaco when she would actually be in Leeds); and the third strike had occurred solely as a result of family illness (Philip’s father had cancer; the family had flown to Ireland at the last minute and she had forgotten to update her schedule). She was quick to point out that she had never failed an exam; rather, she had just missed them. However, at this time, the press was on the offensive.
