Los Angeles Angels Biography and Career:

Angels of Anaheim, California-based professional baseball team that competes in the American League and is headquartered in Anaheim, California (AL). During their first appearance in the “Fall Classic,” the Angels won the World Series in 2002, claiming the championship. As one of two expansion teams (together with the Washington Senators) awarded by Major League Baseball that season, the Angels became the sport’s first newcomers to either of the two major leagues in 60 years.

The Angels won their first World Series in 1961 and won their second in 1962. It was Gene Autry, the “Singing Cowboy,” who owned the Angels, who brought them to Los Angeles in the first place. The California Angels were the team that took over for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1965. After five seasons in Los Angeles, which featured a winning season in only their second season of play, they relocated to Anaheim, which was only a short drive away. The Chicago Cubs’ Aramis Ramirez, wearing number 16, watches the ball exit the ballpark during their game against the Cincinnati Reds. Baseball’s Major League Baseball (MLB).

Nolan Ryan, a future Hall of Fame pitcher, was acquired by the Angels prior to the 1972 season. Ryan went on to pitch four of his seven career no-hitters while wearing the Angels’ uniforms, as well as helping the franchise earn its first-ever postseason appearance in 1981. (on a team managed by Fregosi). The Angels qualified for the playoffs once more in 1982 and 1986, but they were unable to proceed to the World Series in either season, despite holding two-game and three-game series leads, respectively.

With six weeks left in the season, the Angels suffered yet another remarkable collapse, this time surrendering a record 111/2-game division lead to the Seattle Mariners. The team, then known as the Anaheim Angels, advanced to the World Series in 2002 after winning their first playoff series and advancing to the finals. Led by sluggers Garret Anderson, Tim Salmon, and Troy Glaus, the Angels won a dramatic seven-game series against the San Francisco Giants that featured four games decided by a single run.

The addition of perennial all-star Vladimir Guerrero in 2004 and the continued development of young pitchers such as Francisco Rodriguez helped the Angels establish themselves as a yearly playoff contender—winning division titles in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, and 2009—and one of baseball’s best teams through the end of the first decade of the twenty-first century. However, they were unable to match the postseason success of the 2002 Angels squad during those seasons. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim became the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in 2005.

A 10-year contract with three-time Most Valuable Player Albert Pujols was signed by the Los Angeles Angels before the start of the 2012 season, making him one of the most significant free-agent signings in baseball history. Although Pujols was joined by Mike Trout, who would go on to have one of the best rookie seasons in baseball history, the Angels were unable to qualify for the postseason despite the increased offensive firepower.

However, despite winning 98 games during the regular season, the Angels were shocked when they were swept by the Kansas City Royals in their American League division series the following year in 2014. The Angels missed the postseason for the second year in a row by one game in 2015, and they finished in fourth place the following season. During this time period, the team also deleted the prefix “of Anaheim” from its official title. Following the 2016 season, the Angels begin a stretch of consecutive losing seasons.
