Miriam Margolyes Biography and Career:

Miriam Margolyes, born on May 18, 1941, is a British-Australian performer and voice-over artist who was raised in Australia. It was in the theatre that she found her most consistent work. After several supporting roles in film and television, she was nominated for a BAFTA Award for her performance in The Age of Innocence (1993), and she subsequently was cast in the role of Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter film arrangement.


He was the only child of Ruth Margolyes, a property investor and developer from Oxford, and Joseph Margolyes, a physician from Glasgow, and was born on the 18th of May 1941 in Oxford, United Kingdom, as a property investor and developer. With a height of 1.55 metres, the BAFTA Award winner stands out amongst his peers. Miriam, who is publicly lesbian, has been in a partnership with Heather Sutherland, an Australian academician and retired history professor, since 1967. Heather Sutherland is also openly gay.

The role of Mrs Mingott in Martin Scorsese’s The Age of Innocence earned her the BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1994. (1993). In 1989, Margolyes co-wrote and performed in a one-woman show called Dickens’ Women, in which she portrayed 23 characters from Charles Dickens’ novels.

Margolyes came to the attention of younger audiences when she appeared as Aunt Sponge in James and the Giant Peach (1996), and she also provided the voice of the Glowworm is a sequel to the film. She also starred as the Nurse in Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet, which was released around the same time (1996). Her voice was used in animated advertising for Cadbury’s Caramel Bars at this time, and she also provided the voice of Fly, the canine in the Australian-American family film Babe, which was released around this time (1995).

She starred as Professor Sprout in the 2002 film Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, which was released in theatres.
