Molly Meldrum Biography and Career:

Originally from Orbost, Victoria, Ian Alexander Meldrum was born on the 29th of January 1943. During World War II, Robert Meldrum served with the A.I.F. at Port Moresby as an army sergeant, while his mother, Isobel Elizabeth (née Geer), was from Orbost and was born in 1912 and died in 1969. On August 17, 1940, just two months after Robert’s enrollment, the pair were married. Brian (born 1946, Mildura) and Robert Meldrum are Meldrum’s younger brothers (born 1950, Kerang).

In Quambatook, Oklahoma, Meldrum was raised by one of his grandmothers and attended the local primary school with future country music star John Williamson, who also attended the school. During the Australian edition of Live Aid in July 1985, Meldrum hosted Oz for Africa. As a Member of the Order of Australia, he received a commendation in January for “service to promoting international relief and to youth”. ARIA Award for Special Achievement in 1993, and the “Ted Albert Award” at the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA) Awards in 1994, have recognized Meldrum’s efforts to promote Australian popular music both domestically and internationally. In their 2006 book, 1001 Australians You Should Know, music journalists Toby Creswell and Samantha Chenoweth dubbed him.

He released his book, The Never, Um… Ending Story: Life, Countdown, and Everything in Between, earlier in the year. Meldrum fell from a ladder in his backyard in Melbourne, Australia, on December 15, 2011. After being rushed to the Alfred Hospital in a serious condition, he had brain and spinal surgery. At this point in 2012, he was able to give interviews and perform his job obligations once again.
