Natalia Oreiro  Biography and Career:

Natalia Marisa Oreiro Iglesias Poggio Bourie is an Uruguayan actress, singer, and model. She was born on May 19, 1977, in Montevideo, Uruguay, as the youngest child of Carlos Alberto and Mabel. Her full name is Natalia Marisa Oreiro Iglesias Poggio Bourie. She began her training in the theatre when she was eight years old, and now, at 30, her life is spent moving between the cameras, stages, recording studios, and presentations of recorded projects. She is already a sensation. She began her career in the business world by participating in an audition for a movie looking for young actresses when she was just twelve years old.

She taped 37 ads between the ages of 12 and 16 for several companies, including O.B. Coca-Cola, Pepsi, and Johnson & Johnson, among others. She was chosen to represent Xuxa (Meneghel) in programs (“Show de Xuxa, El” (1991)) and homages when she was only 14 years old, even though there were 10,000 other people who had also auditioned for the role. However, most of her profits were spent on plane tickets to Buenos Aires so she could take part in casting calls for films.

She moved to Argentina all by herself when she was 17 years old. She had a tiny part in the television drama “Inconquistable Corazon” (1994), which was produced that year (at first as an ordinary extra, later as Victoria, one of the schoolgirls of Monica Sandoval, the protagonist of the series). She gave up her role as an ambassadress (also known as “Paquita”) to Xuxa (Meneghel) to become a presenter on MTV Latino, and in 1995 she was asked to play the role of Patricia Palmer’s niece, Veronica Iturbe Montalban, in the telenovela “Dulce Ana.” She is known for working in both roles (1995).

After that, she had roles in “90-60-90 modelos” (1996) and “Ricos y famosos” (1997), both of which brought her widespread renown in Argentina as well as in other countries. “90-60-90 modelos” was released in 1996, while “Ricos y famosos” was released in 1997. Already in 1996, she was a member of “Las Mariposas Son Libres,” which was to be her lone theatrical performance. In 1998, she and Fernando Bravo were the two people who helped to co-conduct the “Martin Fiero Awards” event (an equivalent of the Emmy Awards in Argentina).

She also appeared in the film “Un Argentino en Nueva York” (1998), co-starring with Guillermo Francella, in which she played an aspirational young woman who hoped to achieve success in the world of music. Her singing career had its first real start with the release of this movie, which broke all previous attendance records with 1,634,702 viewers. 1998 was the year that she released her first album under the name “Natalia Oreiro.” That same year, she provided her rendition of the song “Cambio dolor” to introduce the television drama “Muneca brava” (1998), which at the time was the highest-rated program on daytime television. Her music has been played in many countries, including “Me Muero de Amor” and other hits.

She was honored with the “Celebrity of the Year” award in the television category on January 27, 2000, presented by E! Entertainment Television Network. This honor was bestowed upon her in recognition of her remarkable career and her status as the celebrity revelation of 1999. She was also considered for the “Martin Fierro Award” for two years running (in 1999 and 2000) as the best dramatic actress in a leading role for her performance as Milagros “Mili” Esposito-Di Carlo de Miranda Rapallo (Cholito/Carlitos), a boyish and sensual orphan girl, who seduced the viewers in “Muneca brava” (1998).

This television show has been shown in more than 80 countries throughout the globe. During the course of her musical career, she performed with “Raffaella Carra” in Italy (on the song “03, 03, 456”), and she participated in “Gala de la Hispanidad,” a concert in Punta del Este that included traditional Spanish music. In addition, she appeared in the “Gala de Murcia” in Spain as well as the “Festival de la Calle 8” in Miami. She went to Los Angeles to record her voice for her second album, which was titled “Tu Veneno” (“Your Poison”). On this record, she adopted a pop-rock style with an Andaluz touch, and it was nominated for a “Grammy Latino Award” in the category of a best female pop album. After making public her decision to devote her career to singing in the year 2000, she traveled to the city to record her voice.

A number of filming opportunities were presented to Natalia in Spain, Italy, and the United States of America. During the years 2000 and 2001, she went on a lengthy tour of recitals that took her to a variety of countries, including but not limited to Romania, the Philippines, Hungary, Greece, Poland, Czech Republic, Israel, Slovakia, Slovenia, Russia, and Belarus. Through her singing and attractiveness, she won over the hearts of the whole Chilean population and won the election for Queen of the Vina del Mar Festival 2000 in February of 2001. The following year, she took part as a guest to perform at the Vina del Mar Festival 2001; this was the second year in a row that she had done so, and she was selected to co-host one of the festival evenings.

She did a show at the opening ceremony of a friendly football match between Uruguay and Korea, which the Uruguayan national football team hosted. The honored invitation went to Uruguayan singer and author Jaime Roos. She was invited to participate in the opening ceremony by the Uruguayan national football team. In February 2002, she was honored by being given the title of godmother to the Uruguayan national football team, and she was asked to go with the squad to the World Cup in Korea and Japan. Throughout March of 2002, she resumed her tour in Russia and Belarus. She simultaneously began recording her next album, “Turmalina,” which was released to the public in June of that same year.

Natalia had begun recording “Kachorra” (2002) a month earlier, along with “Pablo Rago,” which was completed in December of the same year and was broadcast in many countries around Latin America, the Philippines, the Middle East, and Europe. She was considered for both the “Martin Fierro Award” in the category of the best comic actress in the main role and the “Inte Award” in the category of best actress in 2003 for her performance in this and another role.

In March of 2003, she began production on her second picture, Cleopatra (2003), which also starred Norma Aleandro, Leonardo Sbaraglia, and Hector Alterio. The film was a co-production between Spain and Argentina and was directed by Eduardo Mignogna. She began a tour that included stops in Eastern Europe and Latin America in the middle of 2003. She began shooting “El Deseo” on March 1, 2004, for the first time (2004). Her performance on the legendary Latin television program “Sabado Gigante” was her most notable guest role to date (1962).

On May 23, 2007, she was awarded the “Martin Fierro Prize” for her performance in “Sos Mi Vida,” in which she co-starred in with Facundo Arana. This honor recognized her as the country’s top comedic actress at the time.
