Rex Chapman Biography and Career:

American former professional basketball player and social media influencer Rex Everett Chapman was born on October 5, 1967. In Kentucky, Chapman excelled in high school and won various honours for his skills. He received more honours and amassed more than 1,000 points throughout his two seasons at the University of Kentucky. Chapman played for four National Basketball Association (NBA) clubs and was the first choice in the expansion Charlotte Hornets’ draught. He played for 12 years, averaged 14.6 points per game, and participated in two slam dunk contests.

Chapman became addicted to opiates as a result of injuries he experienced on NBA courts. He was finally able to kick his drug habit after being admitted to drug rehab for the third time following a shoplifting charge. Chapman worked for numerous NBA clubs after his retirement, eventually rising to the position of vice president of player personnel with the Denver Nuggets.

He is a basketball game announcer for the University of Kentucky. In a losing effort against Villanova, Chapman scored a career-high 30 points as Kentucky advanced to the Sweet Sixteen. Before deciding to enter the NBA draught, Chapman racked up 1,073 points while playing in college and was chosen to the All-SEC Team both years. He participated in 45 games in the 1994–95 season after playing 60 games in the 1993–94 campaign. Chapman hurt his ankle and was unable to participate in the game despite having a solid start to the 94–95 season and earning his sole career All Star nod. Danny Ainge, who subsequently coached Chapman with the Phoenix Suns and grew to be a close friend, hypothesised that Chapman played shrewd all-out game in an effort to win a title or make an All Star team.

In June 1995, the Bullets dealt Chapman and Terrence Rencher to the Miami Heat for Ed Stokes and Jeff Webster. During the 1995–96 season, Chapman averaged 14.8 points per game.  On February 23, 1996, he led an injury-riddled Miami Heat squad with an 8-man roster to a 113-104 victory over the Chicago Bulls, handing the Bulls one of their 10 losses during their legendary 72-10 run while scoring 39 points (converting 9 of his 10 three-point tries).

Unfortunately, Chapman only played in 56 games before becoming hurt once more later in the season. He finally became a Suns player. Following his retirement, Chapman held a number of occupations in quick succession.  He was hired by the Suns, first as a scout and eventually as Director of Basketball Operations, following his second stint in rehabilitation. During the NBA Playoffs, he provided colour commentary for TNT.

In 2005, he relocated from Phoenix to Minnesota to take a position as a personnel scout with the Timberwolves. In 2006, he agreed to take a job as the Denver Nuggets’ vice president of player personnel, a post he held for four years. His personal life was in trouble when he departed the Nuggets. Sharing custody of their four children while divorcing his wife. Chapman had grown distant from both his parents and sister.  After he quit playing basketball, his life kept getting worse.In 2013, he aired basketball for Grand Canyon University among other organisations. Chapman was detained in Scottsdale, Arizona in September 2014 for stealing goods from an Apple Store.

Chapman checked himself into a Louisville, Kentucky recovery centre managed by a former colleague after his arrest.

He was transported to a hospital where he was treated for an ulcer after experiencing stomach pain for a week without using drugs.Despite the fact that Chapman’s pain subsided, he was upset with the situation: “This entire time I’ve been thinking I’ve got this jones for pain medicine, it was actually just an ulcer.” He received a Zoloft prescription during this time in rehab for his depression, and he also started his first thorough psychotherapy sessions.

Following his stay in Louisville, he pursued additional medical care in Texas and was subsequently hired by TNT to cover Kentucky’s 2015 Final Four game. Chapman was sentenced to probation in September 2015 after entering a guilty plea to four felony offences. He consented to perform 750 hours of community service and pay the Apple Store more than $15,000.
