He then went to Edina, Minnesota, to attend Wayland Academy. He was a football, track, and wrestling fanatic in high school. He started wrestling before he got a football scholarship to the University of Minnesota and dropped out after his first year. Working as a bouncer at a club, he met Olympic weightlifter Ken Patera, who connected him to AWA promoter Verne Gagne. Gagne agreed to mentor Flair and enrolled him in his training program.

Flair married Leslie Goodman in August 1971. They had two kids, Megan and David. They split up in 1983 after 12 years of marriage. Flair married Elizabeth Harrell on August 27, 1983. Ashley and Reid were their children. Elizabeth was on WCW multiple times. But they split up in 2006. To Tiffany VanDemark on May 27, 2006. Their marriage was short-lived and ended in divorce in 2009. He joined Gagne’s wrestling camp in 1971, set up at Gagne’s barn outside Minneapolis. Jim Brunzell, The Iron Sheik, and Ken Patera were among his trainers. In December 1972, in Rice Lake, Wisconsin, he debuted as ‘Ric Flair’ against George “Scrap Iron” Gadaski. The game finished in a stalemate. Flair left the AWA and joined the NWA in 1974. On February 8, 1975, he fought Paul Jones for the NWA Mid-Atlantic TV Championship. Flare was killed in the accident of a plane on October 4, 1975, in Wilmington, North Carolina.

But the mishap forced him to adapt his wrestling style and abandon his power brawling methods. On July 29, 1977, Ric Flair defeated Bobo Brazil to win the NWA US Heavyweight Championship. On September 17, 1981, Flair defeated Dusty Rhodes to win the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. With his golden hair, bejeweled robes, and fine clothes, he became the face of NWA. He subsequently established his own trademark way of mocking opponents by yelling “Woooo!” throughout a battle. On July 26, 1986, at The Great American Bash, Flair lost the title belt to Dusty Rhodes. Ric Flair, Ole Anderson, and Arn Anderson attacked Rhodes in early 1985. Tully Blanchard joined them a few weeks later, and they became the ‘Four Horsemen’.

This evil alliance was formed to undermine NWA’s fan favorites and take all the major titles. Several members joined and left Four Horsemen over the years.  WCW president Jim Herd suggested Flair modify his look and name to ‘Spartacus’ in early 1991. Flair refused, prompting Herd to fire him and revoke his NCW title. Flair joined the WWF in August 1991. Flair returned to WCW in February 1993 as the new face of the brand. He beat Barry Windham at Beach Blast for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship.
