Rush Biography and Career:

Alex Lifeson (guitars, composer), John Rutsey (drums, percussion, lyricist), and Jeff Jones, who was soon replaced by Geddy Lee, formed Rush in Toronto in 1968. Rush went on to become one of the most influential bands in the history of rock music, earning them the title “Queen of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame” (bass, vocals, keyboards, composer).

It took the band many lineup iterations before landing on its famous power three lineups in July 1974, with the inclusion of Neil Peart, who replaced Rutsey four months after the publication of their self-titled debut album and played a key role in their international success. In the end, this was the lineup that the band would use for the rest of its time together.

There were many commercial hits for Rush during their heyday in the 1970s, including Fly by Night (1975), 2112 (1976), A Farewell to Kings (1977), and Hemispheres (1979). It was throughout the 1980s and 1990s that the band experienced a resurgence in popularity. Several albums, including Permanent Waves in 1980, Moving Pictures in 1981, Signals in 1982, and Counterparts in 1993, peaked at the top of charts in both Canada and the United States (1993).

When Peart suffered personal tragedies in 1997, the band took a four-year hiatus, which pushed the band to start recording and performing the following year. The band went on to record three additional studio albums following their reunification in 2001: Vapor Trails (2002), Snakes & Arrow (2006), and Clockwork Angels (2010). (2010). (2012). Following the conclusion of the band’s most recent tour at the end of 2015, the band declared in January 2018 that they would not be continuing their tour. Peart died on January 7, 2020, at the age of 67, from glioblastoma, a type of brain cancer, with which he had been diagnosed at the age of 67.

In addition to their musicianship, complicated compositions, and diverse lyrical topics that mainly rely on science fiction and fantasy, as well as philosophy and religion, the rock band Rush is renowned for its live performances and recordings.

Since its formation in 1977, the band’s sound has developed, beginning with blues-inspired hard rock and developing into progressive rock, then a phase in the 1980s marked by the heavy use of synthesizers, and ultimately a return to guitar-driven hard rock at the conclusion of the 1980s. Throughout the years, Rush’s members have consistently been recognized as some of the most proficient players on their respective instruments, with each of them receiving many awards from magazine readers’ surveys.

With album sales of 26 million units as of 2022, Rush is rated 84th in the United States, according to industry sources, while their total worldwide album sales are estimated to be in the vicinity of 40 million units. Rush has had 14 platinum and three multi-platinum albums certified in the United States, as well as 17 platinum albums certified in Canada, according to the Recording Industry Association of America.

As well as numerous other honors, Rush received nominations for seven Grammy Awards, won several Juno Awards, and received the International Achievement Award at the 2009 SOCAN Awards, among other things. Earlier this year, the band was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, following which they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013.
