Samantha Bee Biography and Career:

Bee is the daughter of Debra and Ronald Bee and was born in Toronto, Ontario. She has stated of her family, “Dating well before the start of the twentieth century, I have yet to hear of a successful, happy marriage in my family genealogy.” Bee’s parents divorced shortly after her birth, and she was reared first by her grandmother, who worked as a secretary at the Catholic school on Roncesvalles Avenue that Bee attended as a kid. She attended both Humberside and York Memorial Collegiate Institutes. Bee attended McGill University after graduating from high school, where she studied humanities. She transferred to the University of Ottawa after her first year due to dissatisfaction with a variety of difficulties at the school.

Bee discovered her passion for performing during the class. Bee later enrolled at Toronto’s George Brown Theatre School. Bee married actor and writer Jason Jones in 2001, after meeting him in 1996. They are currently residing in Manhattan, New York. She gave birth to her first child, a girl called Piper, in January 2006, and then returned to The Daily Show in March 2006. Bee confirmed her second pregnancy on broadcast on January 24, 2008, during a segment regarding the media’s coverage of the 2008 presidential campaign. Samantha Bee began her new show, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, on February 8, 2016. Bee became the first woman to host a late-night satire show when the show premiered. Bee also attempted to institute a hiring process that would result in a more diverse team than is customary for a late-night comedy show.

Bee co-created the TBS comedy series The Detour (2016–present) with her husband, Jason Jones. After a year on Full Frontal, Time named Bee one of the world’s 100 most important people. Full Frontal with Samantha Bee held “Not the White House Correspondents’ Dinner” on April 29, 2017, which aired on TBS that evening. Bee’s “Nasty Woman Shirt” campaign generated more than $1 million for Planned Parenthood in July 2017. TBS renewed Full Frontal for a third and fourth season in January 2018, which will show through 2020. Bee’s contract with Turner is set to expire in 2022. Bee referred to Ivanka Trump as a “feckless cunt” in an episode of Full Frontal that aired on May 30, 2018, after discussing Donald Trump’s immigration policies.

Bee apologized for the day after the episode aired, stating that she “truly ” the remark. Comedians Kathy Griffin, Michelle Wolf, Sarah Silverman, and Jon Stewart all defended Bee, with Stewart implying that much of the fury over the joke was premeditated rather than genuine. The following week, the broadcast included less national advertising. Bee began the broadcast by apologizing to any women she had offended and regretting that one terrible word had obscured her criticism of the policy of detaining illegal immigrant children. Bee announced the formation of a new production company, Swimsuit Competition, in December 2018, as well as the signing of a first-look arrangement with TBS. The organization will concentrate on narrative television and will make documentaries for TBS.
