Seattle Seahawks Biography and Career:

The Seattle Seahawks are a professional gridiron football team located in Seattle, Washington, United States. Located in the National Football Conference (NFC) of the National Football League (NFL), the Seattle Seahawks have one Super Bowl triumph (2014) and three NFC titles to their credit (2006, 2014, and 2015).

The Seattle Seahawks, along with its sister expansion franchise, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, started play in 1976. Following its debut season in the National Football Conference (NFC) and subsequent relocation to the American Football Conference (AFC) in 1977, the Seahawks had their first winning season in 1978, earning head coach Jack Patera the title of NFL Coach of the Year. Jim Zorn, running back Curt Warner, and wide receiver Steve Largent was the leaders of the early Seahawks teams.

Steve Largent retired as the NFL’s all-time leading receiver and was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995, making him the first Seahawk to be inducted into the Hall. In his first season with the Seahawks, head coach Chuck Knox guided the club to the AFC championship game. Over the course of the following nine seasons, Knox had an 83-67 record with the team. Following Knox’s departure from the team in 1991, the Seahawks endured their poorest season in club history, winning just two games in the process.

ON DECEMBER 16, 2012, in ARLINGTON, TX, quarterback Tony Romo #9 of the Dallas Cowboys speaks to the media at Cowboys Stadium. When the Pittsburgh Steelers come to town, it’s game on. As a result of on-field struggles and off-field scandal, the club’s main owner Ken Behring revealed intentions to relocate the franchise to Los Angeles in 1996, claiming the poor condition of the team’s home stadium, the Kingdome, as the cause for the relocation. In 1997, however, millionaire Microsoft cofounder Paul Allen acquired the Seahawks and worked to secure public money for a new football stadium, ensuring that the club would remain in Seattle for the foreseeable future.

In 1999, Allen appointed Mike Holmgren to serve as his head coach and general manager. Following the 2000 draught, the Seahawks traded for quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, who, together with All-Pro offensive tackle Walter Jones, established the foundation of the team’s most successful season in franchise history, which occurred in 2001.

After 25 seasons in the American Football Conference, the Seattle Seahawks were relocated to the National Football Conference in 2002 as part of an NFL reorganization. The next season, the club relocated to a new stadium, which went under many names, including Seahawks Stadium, Qwest Field, and CenturyLink Field, before finally being named CenturyLink Field.

The stadium rapidly gained a reputation as one of the loudest in all of the professional sports in the United States, thanks in large part to the fervent Seahawks fan base, which has been referred to as the “12th Man” since the franchise’s inception. The Seattle Seahawks qualified for the postseason in five of their first six seasons in the National Football Conference. During the 2006 season, the club made its first appearance in the Super Bowl, where they were defeated by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In when 2007 season, Seattle’s performance deteriorated, and after Holmgren was fired from his position as head coach after that season, the Seahawks made a slew of front-office, coaching, and player personnel changes in an attempt to rebuild. After finishing 7–9 during the 2010 regular season, the Seattle Seahawks became the first club in NFL history to qualify for the playoffs while having a losing record in 2011. In the following week, the Seahawks defeated the reigning champion New Orleans Saints in their first playoff game before being ousted from the playoffs altogether.

Powered by a dominant defense that included star defensive backs Richard Sherman and Earl Thomas, as well as rookie quarterback sensation Russell Wilson, the Seattle Seahawks won 11 games in 2012 but were eliminated from the postseason by the Atlanta Falcons in a dramatic 30–28 victory in the second round of play.

In 2013, the Seahawks had the greatest defense in the NFL in terms of points allowed and yards allowed, and they finished with a 13–3 record, which was the best in the NFC that year. The squad then went on to win both of its home playoff games, advancing them all the way to the Super Bowl. As a result of their dominating defense, the Seattle Seahawks defeated the Denver Broncos, who had broken multiple offensive records during the regular season, 43–8 to win the franchise’s first world title.

It was on the opposite side of a thrilling comeback against the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl when the team was eliminated. A 10-point fourth-quarter lead for the Seahawks was erased when quarterback Russell Wilson was intercepted with little over 30 seconds remaining in the game, resulting in a 28–24 defeat for the team from Seattle. In 2015, Seattle returned to the playoffs after missing out on the previous season.

The Seahawks won another tight playoff game against the Minnesota Vikings before being ousted by the Carolina Panthers in the divisional round. The Seahawks toiled through an injury-plagued season in 2016, yet they still managed to win the division, win the first round of the playoffs, and lose in the divisional round. During that season, the team’s 85-game stretch of not losing by more than 10 points came to an end, which was an NFL record at the time.

The Seahawks’ five-year postseason run came to an end in 2017, followed by an off-season in which the club lost several of the noteworthy defensive talents who had driven it to its previous success, including cornerback Richard Sherman and safety Richard Sherman. The Seahawks were largely predicted to be among the worst teams in the NFL in 2018, but they surprised everyone by posting a 10–6 record and advancing to the playoffs, where they were eliminated in the first round. Despite a great season from Wilson at quarterback, the club struggled in 2019, winning only 11 games and losing its first postseason game before being ousted from the playoffs in the divisional round.
