Steven Finn Biography and Career:

Steven Finn, who was born on April 4, 1989, in Watford, is one of the tallest bowlers to have represented England in the past. He became the youngest player in Middlesex history to make his county debut at the age of 16, breaking the previous mark established by Fred Titmus in 1949.

Finn represented England at every level from junior to senior, and he shot to popularity during the 2009 county season with a string of impressive performances. He finished with 53 wickets at 30.64, which surprised and delighted everyone. As a result, he was called up for the Lions’ tour of the United Arab Emirates, as well as being included in the 30-man probable list for the World Twenty20 in 2009.

After injuries to Stuart Broad, Ryan Sidebottom, and Graham Onions, he was able to jump them into the playing XI against Bangladesh at Chittagong, Bangladesh, in March 2010. He has since gone on to play for England in a number of international tournaments. His first home appearance was against the same opponents at Lord’s, and it was a memorable one. He finished the game with numbers of 9/187, earning him his first-ever Man of the Match award for his efforts. He followed it up with yet another five-wicket haul in the Old Trafford Test, earning him his first-ever Man of the Series award for his efforts.

But it was against arch-rivals Australia that he really shined, taking up 14 wickets in three Test matches during the series, including a career-best 6/125 at the Gabba in Brisbane, that he really shone. He was, however, too costly at the WACA, and he was thus kept out of the team for the remaining two Test matches.

Finn was pushed to the sidelines as a result of a dramatic deterioration in form, while Tim Bresnan and Chris Tremlett gained ground in the three-way battle for the third seamer’s position behind James Anderson and Broad. He was a force to be reckoned with in the shorter formats of the game, as seen by his eye-catching bowling exploits on very tame Indian grounds while being overlooked for the Test format.

Finn returned to the Test arena in 2012 against South Africa, however, an ill-advised inclination to upset the stumps in his delivery stride crept into his bowling method, depriving him of several well-deserved wickets. Finn has since retired from international cricket. As a result, the International Cricket Council (ICC) had to establish a regulation stating that any bowler who affects the non-stumps striker while delivering the ball shall be disqualified from bowling. He tried to abbreviate his run-up in an effort to alleviate the difficulty, but it had a negative impact on his rhythm. The tearaway quick was forced to withdraw from England’s historic Test triumph in India while dealing with a troubling thigh ailment during the interim period. After a below-par bowling effort in the first Test of the 2013 Ashes series in England, he was forced to sit on the sidelines once again.

After being called up by Australia for their second Ashes series, Finn was declared unable to participate in either of the teams’ lineups. He didn’t get to play in a single Test and was sent home halfway through the series, which ended in a draw. Finn subsequently returned to his own country to improve his bowling and returned to action in the One-Day International series against India. He also went to Sri Lanka, although he wasn’t feeling well at the time.

As part of the tri-series Down Under, which included teams from Australia and India, Finn was back to his dangerous best. The tall fast bowler pulled up his first one-day international five-wicket haul against India, which earned him the accolade of Man of the Match in the process. He, together with Anderson, Broad, and Chris Woakes, will constitute England’s four-man speed assault in the World Cup in Australia.

With a six-for-79 performance against arch-rivals Australia in Birmingham after returning from the World Cup, Finn showed some signs of regaining his prior levels of performance. Although Finn contributed significantly to England’s victory over South Africa in the Boxing Day Test in Durban, his performance in the following matches proved to be a false glimmer of hope. He never came close to matching those numbers in the following contests. Because of the development of fresh talent, Finn has fallen behind in the fight to partner Anderson and Broad – the imposing Middlesex seamer was left out of the team for the tour of India that took place in late 2016.

Finn, on the other hand, remains a member of England’s one-day squad, having been called up for the trip to the West Indies in early 2017. He has also found favor with a number of Twenty20 teams, having previously played for Otago and Islamabad United, among others. He was selected by the Pretoria Mavericks as one of their foreign players during the first player draught of the Global Twenty20 league.
