Timothy Dalton Biography and Career:

Timothy Dalton was born in Wales. Timothy Leonard Dalton Leggett is his full name, and he was born on March 21, 1946. In addition to his roles as Mr. Rochester in Jane Eyre, Rhett Butler in the TV miniseries Scarlett (1994), and Simon Skinner in Hot Fuzz, he is best known for playing James Bond in the movies The Living Daylights and Licence to Kill. Since February 2019, he has been playing the role of Niles Caulder/The Chief on the DC Universe action show Doom Patrol.

Dalton was born in Colwyn Bay, North Wales, to an English father, Peter Dalton Leggett, who was a captain in the Special Operations Executive during the Second World War and was an advertising executive at the time of his son’s birth, and an American mother, Dorothy Scholes, who was of Italian and Irish descent. During the Second World War, Dalton’s father was a captain in the Special Operations Executive. When Dalton was born, his father was an advertising executive. Before Timothy was four years old, his family moved to Belper, which is in the English county of Derbyshire. When he lived in Belper, he went to Herbert Strutt Grammar School for school. When he was young, he joined the Air Training Corps and served at Croft & Culcheth with the LXX (Croft & Culcheth) Squadron.

When he was 16, he saw a performance of Macbeth and decided that he wanted to become an actor. Soon after, he was cast in a play at The Old Vic. In 1964, he quit school to become an actor. He joined the National Youth Theatre and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Dalton didn’t finish his studies at RADA. In 1966, he dropped out so he could join the ensemble at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre.

His father was very proud of the fact that he wanted to work in the performing arts; “On my father’s side of the family, everyone was happy about what happened. My mother and her side of the family, on the other hand, were worried. None of them thought that acting was a good way for a young man to make a living.” Dalton quickly moved from theatre to television, where he mostly worked for the BBC. In 1968, he played Philip II of France in The Lion in Winter, which was his first film role.

This was the first of a number of period dramas he would go on to star in. In 1970, he played Heathcliff in a remake of Wuthering Heights. After a few more roles in movies, Dalton took a break in 1971 to focus on his work in theatre. He later played with the Royal Shakespeare Company and other companies around the world. In 1975, Dalton and Vivien Merchant played the main roles in a new production of The Vortex by Noel Coward. Up until 1978, he almost only worked in the theatre.

The only movies he did were Mary, Queen of Scots, and Permission to Kill (1978). In the same year, he played the husband of 85-year-old Mae West in the movie Sextette. This was seen as his return to movies and the start of his American career. Mae West was an actress and sex icon from the United States. During his time in the United States, Dalton was a leading actor in a number of movies, but he worked mostly in television.

He played Prince Barin in the 1980 science fiction movie Flash Gordon and Mr. Rochester in a BBC series of Jane Eyre during this time. The same person played both parts. Dalton was the star of the movie “The Doctor and the Devils,” which also starred Jonathan Pryce (1985). Joan Collins and Timothy Dalton both appeared in the TV miniseries Sins (1986). Also, neither of the two movies he was supposed to be in turned out to be right for him.

He played William Lamb in the movie Lady Caroline Lamb, which is based on the life of the real British Prime Minister William Lamb. Just in time, the producers decided to put Jon Finch in his place. Dalton sued for breach of contract and eventually got a settlement without going to court. In 1985, Roman Polanski wanted Dalton to play the part of Don Alfonso de la Torre. Roman Polanski, who is Polish and French, is the director, producer, writer, and actor in the movie Pirates. Polanski decided to put Damien Thomas in place of Dalton because the two men did not get along.

On more than one occasion, Dalton was thought of as a possible James Bond. Even though Dalton says in the same documentary that he was either 24 or 25 at the time and had already done the movie Mary, Queen of Scots, the documentary Inside The Living Daylights says that the producers of On Her Majesty’s Secret Service approached Dalton for the first time in 1968 to play John Dalton in the spy thriller On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1971). Dalton told the producers that he was too young to play the role because he was not old enough.

In 1987, Dalton said in an interview, “At first, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to be the next James Bond after Sean Connery. He was way more than great, and it was great to have him around. It was probably only 24 or 25 years old, which is way too young. But if you’ve seen every Bond episode from the beginning, you know that Sean Connery can’t be replaced.” Again, he was contacted in either 1979 or 1980, but he didn’t like where the movies were going and didn’t think the filmmakers were serious about finding a new 007. He went on to say that his idea of Bond was different from everyone else’s.
