Tom Odell Biography and Career:
Thomas Peter Odell is a British singer-songwriter who was born on November 24, 1990, in England. Songs from Another Love was his first extended play and it was published in 2012, the same year that he received the Critics’ Choice Award at the BRIT Awards in early 2013. His first album to be recorded in a studio, titled Long Way Down, was released on June 24th, 2013. Wrong Crowd, his second album recorded in a studio, was released on June 10th, 2016. Jubilee Road, his third studio album, was released in October of 2018 under his own name.
Odell was born in Chichester, which is located in the county of West Sussex, England. His father was a pilot for an airline, and his mother was a primary school teacher. He has an elder sister. Because of his father’s work, he was forced to spend a portion of his youth in New Zealand. His formal education took place at Seaford College.
At the age of 18, Odell changed his mind about attending the University of York and instead made an application to a music college in Liverpool. After being let off from his work as a barman a year later, he returned to Chichester in order to start a new life there. He made frequent trips to London in the automobile that belonged to his grandmother in order to set up ads at music schools and perform concerts there.
Before relocating to London in 2010, he attended the British and Irish Modern Music Institute (BIMM) in Brighton, where he was a member of the band Tom and the Tides while he was there. Tom and the Tides contributed their rendition of “Spider” to the student compilation album What’s Inside Your Head Vol. 1. 3. Later on, he came to the conclusion that he wanted to pursue a career as a solo artist because he “didn’t want to have to depend on anyone.”
In the Name Of is an imprint of Columbia Records, and Odell is a signed artist there. During the ‘No Bad Days’ tour, Odell shared that he is currently working on new music for an upcoming album and performed some of the new material live. During his tour of Germany for the New Fall Festival in November 2017, he stopped in Düsseldorf and Stuttgart. It was during this time that he made the announcement that the album had been completed and that the first single would be coming out very soon.
In an interview broadcast on BBC Radio 2 on the 20th of December, 2017, Odell said that the new album is anticipated to be released in the middle of 2018. The first single from Odell’s upcoming album, titled “If You Wanna Love Somebody,” was made available to the public all over the world on June 14, 2018. Elton John had a huge influence on Odell when he was growing up. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road was one of the first albums he ever listened to when he started collecting records (1973). On February 7, 2014, Odell debuted his first new song since the release of Long Way Down at the Plymouth Pavilions. The song was titled “Alex,” and it was performed by Odell. The concert marked the beginning of the final leg of his Long Way Down tour in the UK.
At the Ivor Novello Awards ceremony in 2014, Odell was honored with the title of songwriter of the year.’ The song “Can’t Pretend” by Odell was featured in an episode of the television show The 100. Both “Can’t Pretend” and “Long Way Down” appeared on the television show “The Blacklist” as well as the critically acclaimed film “The Fault in Our Stars.” One of the episodes of Reign included his song “Grow Old With Me” in its soundtrack. Along with the song “Another Love,” his song “Heal” was featured in the film If I Stay, as well as the television series NCIS, The Vampire Diaries, and Elementary.
The next song that Odell released was a cover of “Real Love” by The Beatles. This song was used as the audio track for the John Lewis Christmas advertisement in 2014 and brought him a lot of attention.
